Default Death Sounds not working in sounds.cfg? - 02-05-2004

Hello again. I finally got everything back to normal here.

The only problem I need to report is I can't get my custom Death sounds to work.
Most of them are from (mEAn), a few are from other people.

All I'm hearing is the default death sounds. What needs to be done to activate, or precache, these .wav's so they'll play?

Tried "nuling" the default death sounds by using null.wav as the default death sounds, didn't work.

Don't remember what I did before to get them to work.
Perhaps I need to :RTFM:.

Did you edit the sounds.cfg file to tell it to use your sounds?

Yes I did.

Here's the part of the "!death" sounds in sounds.cfg I have currently;

Code:

!death
;
; note to disable the sound a player makes when he dies, replace
; the below sound files with this one: common/null.wav
;
player/death1.wav
player/death2.wav
player/death3.wav
player/death4.wav
mean/simpsons/hmr_aaah2.wav
mean/simpsons/hmr_aaah1.wav
mean/simpsons/hmr_nooo1.wav
mean/simpsons/hmr_nooo2.wav
mean/simpsons/hmr_makeitstop.wav
misc/dohnuts.wav
mean/simpsons/hmr_DOH!!!.wav

I have tried yesterday of doing this "m_turnsound system death on" thing, didn't work.

I know that the default death sounds are "die1.wav", "die2.wav" and "die3.wav".

And yes, I have downloaded and installed the (mEAn) Sound Pack correctly.

Um....hello? o_O I'm still waiting for an answer.

I feel like I'm being ignored over here. I tried to fix it myself instead of wait for a reply but I can't get it.
Please help me. I have tried everything.

For some reason I can't find the edit button to edit the above post.??? Oh well.

Well anyway, this is what I have done so far;

I basically took 4 WAVs I have and used them as the default death sounds. They work. But the sounds.cfg in the "!death" thingy still isn't playing what I have in it. >

I also tried to remove the "deathx.wav" sounds from the /player/ directory just to SEE if the sounds.cfg is even being USED. 9_9

sounds.cfg is looking and not finding the files. So, it can FIND the death sounds, but it's not PLAYING them instead of the default death sounds. >

I thought about creating a seperate /sounds/ directory in cstrike, since according to the installation instructions, I'm supposed to put them in a "sounds" directory, not "sound", but the files themselves are ready to be installed in the "sound" folder in the meansoundpack1.zip file.

I don't know...maybe I need to be a Server Op for the death sounds to be triggered?? ??? I can't even get that. It still claims I have Public Priblidges when I did everything right in the docs, I SHOULD have ServerOp Priblidges but mean doesn't think so.

Why does mean have to be "mean" to me? :'(

The folder where the sounds go is called "sound" not "sounds", this must be a typo.

Place the default sounds in here under their respective subfolders as shown in the sounds.cfg file

example:

Quote:
..\cstrike\sound\player\death1.wav

Not all "wav" sound files will work because the wav file must be uncompressed, and some wav files are compressed. You have to test each new sound file to see which work and which do not. The ones that come with the sound pack all work.

To get the sounds to work, you have to enable them and they must be precached.

Place these commands in your server.cfg file - you can also specify which sound systems to turn on. The commands shown turn all of them on.

m_sounds all enabled
m_sounds all on

ps: I've been busy with work, and also I'm trying to update mEAn to work on Linux, so expect up to 2 days at most for me to respond to your questions.
