Are you talking about the barrels as in HL2?
I have never seen one in hl1.

I have seen exploding crates but not barrels in hl1.
I have never tried hacking a map to add exploding crates. Does anyone know of a map with one so I can take a look at the entity type? I forgot now what map it was I saw exploding crates in, in cs 1.6
