Hi Wreck.
If you use CS 1.5 and NOT steam (I still don't have it yet ) then add the command " -nocdaudio " to your CS shortcut's properties in the target box. It worked for me when I try to start a new game and it crashes - of course that was back when I had Windows 98 - I use xp now.
