if you got a proper cd key then you should get the legal steam.
steam is valve's new way of keeping all their games together and sending updates to everyone as soon as possible
you should be able to run cs 1.6 fine as you seem to have similar specs to me except more than double ram and i can easily play with 10 bots after that 128mb ram is not sufficent
