i use 1.5, so i dont make mine read-only.

but i believe they said to do that because steam likes to change things and ruin your life. or at least it was a few versions ago. so steam messed with the liblist.gam file and made realbot not work properly. if u make it read-only, then steam cant mess with it and realbot should work fine.
