Question :server operations
Do let me empty this thought for feasting upon :
Let's use Bindle as an example (he wont mind me picking on him) : imagine this : If Bindle has a ET server running in campaign mode, with 12 bots per side without any human players. If Bindle finds that 12/12 or 24 is his max number of players without stressing his connection too much would this allow for : If ex. (crapshoot) and (Denny) both join at the same time, and choose their sides to play on, this would send Bindle's connection into hissy fits. (yes, I am getting to my point here somewhere) Can it be "defined" somewhere that the server will automatically adjust down/up the number of bots to keep the steady 12 per side mark? This way when Denny/Crapshoot join the game they server removes 2 bots and as they depart the server the server adds back in the bots. (terrible time explaining that thought, hope you all can understand my point) This would allow for (up to the max player limit) full teams on both sides, with or without bots, without causing ungodly lag and connection errors. just a thought.:nuke: |
Re: Question :server operations
In response to the above question. I used to run another bot server (I'm not saying which) that worked in the way you proposed. It's possible to do this as long as it's coded into the mod. I think I asked Mal this same question early on and his response was it could be added in a later upgrade. On my other server i always ran one bot down so it appeared there was always a slot open to join. For example 20 slots, I would have 19 bots running. 1 real person would join and drop server down to 18 bots, 1 real person and 1 open slot. This would happen until the server reached the minimum bots I set, say 15. Then the server would fill once the 5th real person joined. I'd like it if we could do it here as I'd run this one the same way as long as slots would open up once a real person would join.
