Bots using Camera?
 

Has any bot authors taken advantage of the camera systems on certain maps or can't it be done?

Whilst using a camera your origin changes to the camera position, so I was thinking you could fire off tracers from that new position to get a new target if any is found. Prediction would need to be done to work out where the target is roughly going, then off the bot trotts ;)

Sorry for taking so long to respond, i saw this post a while back but never knew exactly what you meant... I still don't :) Could you explain a bit more. Do you mean cameras as in trigger_cameras that are activated by using a button?

I guess what you mean is if a bot looks through a camera it wants to go there?

Well it seems you did understand what I mentioned, but yes perhaps I should of been more specific about it being the actual trigger_camera entity which you can use.

And yes if the bot looks through the eyes of trigger_camera it might want to go there, depending on what it can see.

certainly if a bot has some representation of its environment, it could add what it has seen through the camera into the environment space, but it shouldn't know where to put it since it hasn't been there, there will need to be some form of idea for the bot how to get to the area it has seen so it can properly link up to the bots map of the environment, as I think you guessed in your first post.

It also depends on which MOD you are playing, how the bot would want to go there or not, if exploration is of greater importance then maybe (such as SvenCoop). Of course it would also be nice to store the information from the camera for later use, maybe next time when the map is running, the bot may not need to look in the camera again :P

Well, really if the bot could use a camera they should also be able to make demo's etc... that would be a hard but good aspect if they are able to use cameras.
