Best bot for hl 1.0.1.6 / CS Beta 6.1
 

Hi guys,
I just dug out my old skool cs folder from a few years back when some clever people figured out how to bypass steam and allow the good ole versions to be playable online again. Anyway, thats all a bit dead now (altho still possible) so I was wondering if any of the bots will work with the old CS beta 5.2 or 6.1 which uses version 1.0.1.6 of HL. I would really love to have a go with it again :)

I've a similar problem, except we would like to get bots running on a public linux dedicated 5.2 server (5.2 runs just fine on 1.0.1.6 by the way). Pod-bot mm works for 7.1, but there's no .so file like there is in that distribution to substitute. My knowledge of the subject ends right about there too; I wouldn't know the first thing about using the included source files to compile my own, or if it's possible.
Is there such a file?

The HL engine changed fundamentally between the 1.0. and 1.1. series. I'm not sure it's possible to backward hack the Pod-Bot source code to make it work on such an old engine... actually, I don't think you can.

Er. Yeah. Now that I think of it, I recall bots were simply impossible to do with the 1.0.x.x. engines because of the lack of basic bot functionality (server-side creation, player entity attaching, etc...).

The old HL engine version 1.0.1.6 is fine with bots. However the old HL sdk 1.0 is Windows-specific and some changes may needed for GNU/Linux build. You can try it yourself by using my modified version of POD-Bot.

There doesn't seem to be any CS bot that works with 1.1.x and versions older than 6.5 beta. Almost every CS bot is based on POD, which only works with 6.5+

The only bot I know of that works with 1.0.x versions of Half-Life is HPB-Bot, and I don't know how to get that running for anything other than plain HLDM.
