Linux Dedicated DOD Shrikebot Install

Hopefully I've placed this mouthful in an appropriate forum. It's labeled "Shrikebot" so I'm hoping at least close :D.

Approximately two weeks ago I loaded a built a new RH9 server, loaded the steam update binary, and built myself a very simple, basic HLDS server running under Linux. Not one problem.

The same day I downloaded shrikebot, and following the directions untarred it in my hlds/dod directory, which gave me a new directory under that, labeled shrikebot.

The instructions were very simple and I followed them precisely. The manual then indicates Steam Users are now ready to go fraggin.

So I restart the server, and attach to it. Not one bot.

I then added +localinfo blah blah to point to the /dod/dlls/shrikebot_i386.so to the command line, and still, no bots.

I am not sure if shrikebot is loading, or not loading, I have no way of telling, I don't think.

So I type in my rcon password, then type in rcon addbot 1 1 2 "tangerine" and nothing happens.

After reading the instructions several times, it's clear to me I've missed something really obvious, that by staring at this for the past week, I just can't see it.

Could someone kindly nudge me a little?

This might have been easier for me had the linux dedicated server had a console. I guess there is a console, but it doesn't accept command, it just displays minimal information. If you control-C it, the hlds server goes down.

Thank you in advance,
Frederic

Awesome! It's printing now... When I'm done going through the install, I'll give you feedback if you like.

You may give any sort of feedback at anytime. :)
In fact you can/may edit the howto your self in the bots-united wiki.

Re: Linux Dedicated DOD Shrikebot Install

I found out why shrikebot wasn't working, and sad to say it was a serious typo.

In adminmod's config file, I had put "shrukebot..." rather than "shrikebot..."

Of course staring at it for a month I overlooked it consistantly, because my mind saw it one way, and my eyes saw it how I typed it. Go figure.

Intrestingly enough, my install process was radically different than yours, so I'm going to write it up seperately, and send it to you.

I didn't want to change as much as I'd have to, so you don't lose all your work thus far.

It's interesting how different the install process was too... go figure.

I'll look into it. :)

/* edit */
Can you send it again ?
It might have gone into the spam folder. (unfortunatly i get tons of it)
So i might have thrown it out. please use "shrikebot" in the subject.
