Some good news? While proposed legislation would make the downloading of copyrighted content illegal, Bodström now threatens to make copy restriction mechanisms ["DRM" - Digital Rights (actually "Restrictions") Management] on CDs illegal.

We don't have this problem in France: personal copy is legal, no matter what copy protection scheme the bastards use :)

They've tried countless times to sue people for it, they never succeeded :)

Canada too.

Theres very few countries with absurd laws on this matter, US and Australia are two that come to mind.

In denmark it's allowed to break copy protection if neccesary to play the media. That means that if you have a mp3 player, you can legally rip a cd and encode it to mp3, even if there is copy protection.

Which is good, I guess.

Poor companies... they're against the wall. I Dunno what they're gonna make money of in the future, but it's not gonna be cd releases, that's for sure.

hmmm, it's actually a matter of more money (become billionare like Bill Gates) or less money (make a living, or eventually buy a house and car), not have money or no money.

let's say, even if they don't forbid others copying and modify their programs AT ALL, they can still make money by distributions, supports and other services. And many people will choose to buy it because they want to get supports, or just their CD distributions is "nicer" than a own made DVD-R. Of course they will make less money in this way, but that will be enough for them to live.
