CD key already in use error
 

I've looked everywhere on the net for someone who had this same problem but couldn't find anything. In one of my high school classes, we've been trying to play day of defeat over the school's lan. When we first tried to play, only 5 of us were able to get into the game, and the rest received errors that said "this cd key is already in use," and then their game shut off. Now we had installed half-life on all of the computers using the same cd, so one of us brought in another copy to install on the computers that were getting the error so that they would have a different cd key. But those computers still got the error. Not only couldn't they join a game, but they couldn't host a game without getting the cd key already in use error. Does anybody have any idea why we would be getting this error? In case it helps, we're using day of defeat v1.0, and the v1110 patch for half-life.

Ok, after uninstalling HL, it doesn't delete the registries. So..

Start > Run > regedit

now search for anything half-life, and preferrably export (for backup purposes, always safe, and it's what? 1-10kb?) and then delete.

Now you should be able to reinstall the game. I say, don't just use 2 copies, it's obvious that I'd fail. Each one of you guys just go buy HL1. It's like $15 CAD, that's nothing. USD I bet it's cheaper, euro even more. It's a classic, it's a good one, it's worth it. ;)

After that, you shouldn't get cd key in use problems.
