CSBot
The official CSBot is out. Do you think that they will release the source code for CSBot?
|
Re: CSBot
i really doubt it, The source is owned by valve i think & it`s part of the mod.
Unless mike takes out the bot code and releases it to the public. just a quick edit you get quite a lot of the ai code with the valve sdk & this is the wrong forum to post in (should be the hl2 sdk one). |
Re: CSBot
yep, wrong forum... I'm moving it to the HL2 SDK one.

Re: CSBot
I highly doubt they will. They released HL2 AI and all, not the same as the CS:S bots though, but maybe they want to encourage us to try to experiment with the new AI to make smarter, more aware bots than the CS:S ones?

Re: CSBot
what if they do release the source code?
|
Re: CSBot
that would be suicidal for Turtle Rock Studios. That's what they are making money with!
Maybe they'll release it, but in 4 or 5 years, not before. |
Re: CSBot
I highly even doubt 4-5 years, it's more like until they trash the CS bot and rewrite it from scratch... Because you gotta remember that they are going to be reusing and upgrading the Source engine for many years to come, so I doubt if valve will release any time soon, I suspect MANY years down the road, if anything..

Re: CSBot
there are way too few proprietary software companies even acts like Id Software...
(I'm not saying Id Software is a free software company though) also even if the HL and HL2 single player AI source code is available, you can't legally use it in your programs unless it's a HL mod or bot. Just look at the SDK EULA. To sum up they aren't free software or "open source". |
Re: CSBot
On the hl coders list Alfred mentioned the next SDK release will have a bot sample plugin! :)

Re: CSBot
Bot sample? Meaning the HL2 campaign ones or the CSBot ones?
