Don't come to Rio de Janeiro
Why?
Cause today, about one hour ago, I almost got mugged. I was making my way to the mall, when suddenly, a group of 5 or 6 people cornered me on a wall, asking for 1 real (real is our currency). I said I didn't have anything, but they began to come near me more and more. I realised there was no way out, and I didn't know if any of them had a gun, so I pulled out my wallet. The "chief" (I don't know if there was one) of the group was going to pull out all the money I was carrying (not much, 9 real= 3 dollars, I was gonna withdraw some more at the mall's atm). Suddenly, out of nowere, 2 people (normal people) saw what was happening and started to chase them away. Once they had ran away, one of them asked me if I was alright. I said I was, then I thanked them and ran to the nearest subway station, where I caught a train and got back home. But what surprised me is that they weren't police officers, private security guards or somebody I knew the people who helped me. They were unknown to me. At least I know there still is some good in the world. I also know I won't be going out for a while... :(:(:(:( [edit2][edit]Put all text in Verdana[/edit][/edit2] |
Re: Don't come to Rio de Janeiro
:( that sucks.
Good thing those 2 ppl saw what was happening. Worst part is.. it's not so much about the money.. it pshychological damage they inflict.. |
Re: Don't come to Rio de Janeiro
This is why I never carry cash or valuables. Yeah and Shrike is right, 3 bucks USD isn't much but you probably won't feel safe for a while.

Re: Don't come to Rio de Janeiro
/me wanna come to brazil anyway...
I've always wanted travel in south america... I'm planning to take a year of in a year and a half, see if it's possible to come and see the amazonas and the andes, and probably rio too ;) but to get ontopic, It's too bad when you can't feel secure walking around in a mall anymore :/ I've never experienced anything like that myself though... I guess denmark is a pretty safe country to go shopping in... I hope you'll get over it without problems |
Re: Don't come to Rio de Janeiro
Well, there's nnot much to add, I suppose. Glad you didn't get injured or something.
The morals of this story: Stick with cs_rio - the worst thing that can happen to you there is being pwned. :) |
