Making Your Own Bot From Scratch

I'd like to get a thread going for those of us who:
  • Have programming experience with C++
  • Have a IDE for development
  • Love playing with bots
...BUT have no idea how to make a bot of our own. How does one go about getting a bot up and running. My goal for this thread would be to have a simple bot that could be loaded into a MOD (say Day of Defeat) and would just stand there...nothing fancier than that for now...

Any takers?

hmm
- download botman's template
- read the readme.txt

What about Metamod? Is that the best way to do a bot these days?

Metamod simplifies a lot of things. However I suggest to get used to HL programming in general first because of all the game-specific tricks you need to know and that you can learn only by working them out. The ideal would be to hack out botman's bots for a short while, then move to metamod and start writing something clean (as in botman's code, with all respect we owe to our guru, it's clearly a mess sometimes ;))
