Searching for Killaruna
I'm wondering if anyone knows of a way to get a hold of Killaruna, the creator of Parabot? I'm not looking for him to try to get him to update his bot so that it will work with Steam, although that would be very cool, I am wondering if he would consider releasing his source code.
Parabot was one of the most innovative bots based on Botman's template that I have ever seen. Working on the development of another bot I would love to see how he dealt with autowaypointing, and bot learning. |
Re: Searching for Killaruna
I think he has another job somewhere. He has no time to work on Parabot anymore, he says.
Search for his posts on the forums...he's been around. |
Re: Searching for Killaruna
I'm an idiot... it didn't occur to me to search for him in the members list... duh! :o

Re: Searching for Killaruna
probably he will NEVER release the source code...

I really hope he gets it updated for Steam...I loved playing his bot in countless custom HLDM maps. |
Re: Searching for Killaruna
you can also take a look at Stefan's code, it also has autowaypointing - but it's not better than Tobias's and it just lags a lot on my old computer

Re: Searching for Killaruna
Parabot is one of the most amazing bots I ever played with. It was so sad to see it die. It would be really neat if Killaruna would release some more of the source code.

Re: Searching for Killaruna
@whistler : without wanting to insult stefan, but parabot's autowaypointing is beyond anything of the bots coded here, I think. it isnt only recording stuff like buttons, but uses hirarchical structures for pathfinding and more. In amsterdam we discussed if this may be ported to CS, and well, dunno. the layout of HLDM maps is just the right one for that system :)

Re: Searching for Killaruna
Parabot is a wonder. I should have known that other people had already tried to convince him to release the source code. I also realized that HLDM style maps were probably ideally suited for his autowaypointing, however, you never know, it might be possible to port his code over to more complex mods, such as CS or Firearms, or DOD.
If Parabot can recognize objectives, and find ways to complete those objectives, which it can, then it should be possible to use that basic code to get bots to do things like capture flags, or retrieve items and carry them from one location to another, or escort hostages, or plant bombs, etc. etc. I guess if nothing else it would be great if Killaruna could find somebody that he trusts enough to hand his code over to so that person can update it for Steam. I'm betting that it wouldn't take much to make it Steam compatible. This would at least allow people to continue to use this amazing bot. |
