Bots pushing imaginary buttons
I dunno if anybody else has seen this problem, but while I was checking my WPs for de_rock, I noticed that sometimes a bot stood somewhere and apparently kept hitting the "use" key in thin air. Once I also saw two bots that ran into each other, and instead of taking some steps left/right/back to unstick themselves and pass each other, they stood facing each other and kept hitting the "use" key all the time until round end.
Btw, there's not a single button or lift flag in the entire WP set, and no lift, button or anything usable in the eintire map... ???:( |
Re: Bots pushing imaginary buttons
Again I don't know much about the coding of Podbot but i think they are written if there is something blocking their path I think they will use the use key as if a door was there. I am not 100% sure on this cause I didn't write them you would have to ask Splor more directly

Re: Bots pushing imaginary buttons
Well ok, but I also saw this with a bot who stood in the middle of a wide corridor, with no door, wall or other player anywhere near him. It just didn't make any sense...

Re: Bots pushing imaginary buttons
You also must remember coders here are not experts and are not part of Steam or CS so if they change a code or add a code people here may never know it and besides no code is perfect unless it comes from Kevin Midnick

Re: Bots pushing imaginary buttons
Even Kevin Mitnick writes bugs, lad. Besides, that guy is just a self-advertising retarded cracker. He broke into one or two systems and got caught and fined, and seems to make a great fuss about it. It's much more demanding to write something that works stable and efficiently than to break into someone's code. I have more respect for Bill Gates than for Mitnick, that's to say if I scorn for him. If you want to see REALLY good guys, head up to the demo scene. There are people able to write a 3D FPS game in less than 100 kilobytes there.
besides all that you say is false, these bots don't press the use key when they are stuck. And there's nothing the Steam or CS coders at Valve could do that would decide a bot to press the use key, since this decision is part of the bot code itself. T Wrecks, what you could do, is try to record a demo when this happens. You could also load up the PMTools plugin and issue the "asearch" command in the surroundings of the bot to get a dump of the entities nearby. There might be invisible triggers there. |

Re: Bots pushing imaginary buttons
You dont need to be a "genius" to crack code. And when you're a genius AND a cracker, you don't get caught as easily as Mitnick got caught. The number of crackers around this planet who are able to break into a server, create viruses and deface sites and their average age and level of vocabulary should confirm you that. Do you really know something about Mitnick ? It's Mitnick by the way, not Midnick. I guess all that you know, you've heard it somewhere in an IRC channel where it was posted by wannabe l33t hax0rs wanting to show their unexistent knowledge. Mitnick is a pure product of mass media. An urban legend. Mitnick thought he was a l33t hax0r and tried to break into government servers, until he realized there are admins out there on the net who know their business, and he got caught miserably by a Japanese security consultant. The fact that it was government servers scared the shit out of people and mass media phagocyted this story and inflated it with a lot of bullshit. Let me say it again slowly so that you understand: You Don't Need To Be A Genius To Do What Mitnick Did.
A PC, a book about assembly, a network connection, a couple of badly administrated porn servers, et hop! I'm a Genius (and one with a capital G, even). F34r my l33t sk1llz, biohazerd! 9_9 |
Re: Bots pushing imaginary buttons
Um, yes. Have you finished your discussion? Mitnick shitnick... why don't you just move that to the off-topic section, guys? ;)
Ok, so I'll try to record a demo. This can take a while, as the bug doesn't occur that frequently (and apparently, nobody else has seen it so far), but I'll see what I can do. |
