Irc
Howdy,
I know we have an IRC server and channels. But the it's a little problem to be on more servers at once. The irc client programs i know can only connect to one server. All the gaming channels and community is on Gamesurge (used to be gamesnet) Maybe we should open channel on gamesurge instead of having own irc server. (which is pretty cool tho who ever set it up :-) ) just my thoughts =) |

Re: Irc
PLz tell how instead of linky.
im using mirc. but way i do it, it keeps disconnecting the other server. 9_9 9_9 ------------- edit i do in mirc from top menu: file >> options >> connect >> Add then fill in server and port and ad it. then press connect. it shuts down other sever connections and connect to bot-united server. |
Re: Irc
You didn't wrote which client you're using...
You need a recent version of mirc, e.g. 6.03. File->Options->Connect There is a checkbox "New Server Window". Activate it and choose your second/third/... server to connect, that's it. |
Re: Irc
OK , thanks.
That worked :D But still i think it be better to be just a registered gamesurge channel. again just my 2 cents |
Re: Irc
perhaps yes.... there's usually not much traffic on the IRC server these days.
What are the other advantages of registering a channel at gamesurge ? What could be done is that since now the BU IRC server is a standalone server, we could make it a leaf of the gamesurge network... but I'm not a crack in configuring IRC servers. Anyone ? |
Re: Irc
You can't do that without the cooperation of the gamesurge operators. They have to configure their servers to accept your server as a leaf...
Making your server a leaf of gamesurge won't change anything for me as I'm usually at quakenet - as most of the german cs clans are... |
Re: Irc
hmm also i consider irc to be much too dangerous and to be honest after some days in the irc i stoped autologin at startup, since 90% where ppl. screaming for help, but this was even more work than in the board, because the ppl then totaly stop reading on their own. they just scream
"help help im a noob help". they blantly refuse to read and are generaly not very nice, nor productive. so having IRC for a small chat or quick discussion is a plus, but hosting a channel leads to more work which will only work with volunteers willing to spend most of the time with people too lazy to even try to help themselfes, not what i exactly dream of to do im my rare sparetime... |
Re: Irc
I quite agree.
One solution would be a system to allow on IRC only registered members (perhaps with a certain number of posts). What do you say about it ? |
Re: Irc
Yes true true.. irc channel for support and help is not much good and will surly give to much work.
All true what Memed said. I thought more like for regular members and or staff. more like what Pierre-Marie said. |
