New bot at Bots United: ShrikeBot !
 

Just to let people know, the BU Council finally met and validated Cpl.Shrike's proposal to join Bots United with his bot ShrikeBot !

It's now up to him to tell us what URL he'd like (shrikebot.bots-united.com ?), what email address too, and what title and subtitle he wants for his forum :)

Shrike, welcome in ! Feel free to post any request you have here (or contact one of the admins directly).

You can just move all your pages over to the Bots United server and leave a redirect on your previous domain ; that's what I did for my domain racc-ai.com. Botmeister too recently moved his mEAn mod pages to the Bots United server. We would however appreciate VERY MUCH if you decided to open a new forum here and decide your current forum users to come and register here instead. The point of Bots United is to unite the community, this cannot be done if every bot developer holds his own forum out there somewhere, you understand :). By merging your user community to the Bots United one, you inheritate from the best of both: think about it.

Here's what shrikebot want's for now.

I'll move my home page to the bots-united server.
Do i get ftp access to it ??
And i'll redirect the domain name.

But for now the shrikebot forums stays at ezboard.
I payed fo it in advance and i don't feel like throwing that away.


If it's possible the shrikebot forums can be linked in the bots-united forums like the other bots. As i did on shrikebot forums linking back to bots-united as if it where part of the forums. That way the communitie stays pretty thight linked for now :-)

I think this should be done for the other bots to that are listed down the main page. ;-)

If this is all possible it would be verry great.

The guy to ask to is memed, get in touch with him and he'll open you a login shell, ftp and scp, a webspace and mail account and all, he's so much used to it he is able to do all this in 5 minutes :)

How much did you pay for it ? Is it a rental and if so when does it end ? Can we expect to host your forums some day in the future ?
It's somewhat disappointing...
Would you run 2 forums in parallel perhaps ?

It is possible... but alas no, it's not linking forums together that make the community pretty tight linked... the regulars of Bots United won't probably go and visit your shrikebot forum, and most of the shrikebot regulars won't become Bots United regulars. We all know it. :|

and for the forum stuff i suggest you just make a new forum here and let the "masses" decide. as long as you use the BU forum too (i.e. react to requests, post news and anounce releases), people will start to switch, BU regulars will probably not use your ezboard board, thus some stuff will only happen here and you will probably start posting links to the BU forum in your ezboard.
so the main problem will be user convinience for double registering. if you can export your current user accounts i might be able to import them into the BU forum.
so even when i share the concerns PMB has, i also see the need for a soft switch, hey after all BU is supposed to be here for much longer than Cpl. Shrike has prepaid his board :-)


to speedup account creation, pls tell me in the mail, what you need from the wish list:
->email (proposed name ?)
-> http subdomain (shrikebot.bots-united.com ?)
-> ftp or scp upload
-> mysql database


and also i would like to know your realname (will be kept private to the council and me).
