hey all! finally im back :)
how are you guys?
i got a new computer so i decided to install ET with fritzbot V0.70...

but when i want to make a new profile or want to change any settings the console allways give me an error message like this: coudln´t witre config/blablabla :cursing:

pls someone help me!!
oh im using ETV2.55, but i will install the patch this evening!

I can't think of a better use for a new computer :D

It sounds like the etconfig file or your folder is set to Read Only. Right click it in Explorer and select properties. At the bottom there should be a check box next to the read only option.

yep, it´s really the best use for a new computer ;)
well, i´m using vista, hope it´s the same there :)
oh and where is the file you mean?

Its in a dir called "profiles" inside the mod's dir.

i.e. "fritzbot/profiles"

You'll see a folder in there with your name, and you enter that folder, and your cfg file will be in there.

ok, patch v2.60 is installed, file(s) was not set on read only! i also started the game in admin mode...nothing helped :( i also reinstalled the game 2 times!!

More questions some trivial...

How about plain vanilla ET does it have any problems?
Has Vista locked the files and have you tried re-booting to try clear the filelock?
Haven't seen Vista yet so has Micro-cough fiddled with file permissions *write, modify, create directory)? I assume the 'profiles' directories exist, does the <playername> subdirectory and 3 files (etconfig.cfg, profile.pid and servercache.dat)?.
Is your firewall preventing the ET application from accessing the trusted zone?
Is your harddrive near full?

WORST CASE have you tried deleting servercache.dat and restarting ET fritzbot

Vista does some different things with file permissions I believe. I don't know enough about it yet to really help, but I'm thinking the best bet at the moment is to manually add the changes you want into your etconfig file rather than using the in game menu to do it.

@TomTom, what did you mean with "plain vanilla ET" ? the normal ET? it also got the same problems! Nope, my harddrive isnt full...i´ve got more then 200 gb free space! the file isnt locked by vista...yep, the 3 files are there and also firewall isnt preventing the ET application!!

i will try to add the changes manually in the config file!!

You might also check other file saving operations (screenshots, demos, /condumps) that use other directories.
Are you logged into Vista as an admin or as a user?
btw I will state the obvious: Do the manual changes when ET is not running JIC.

yep, im logged in as admin! i also started et in adminmode and compatile mode "XP"
