Using Menus

Hi, I'm working on a mod which is team/class based, like Team Fortress. I'm trying to make a class selector menu by utilizing the existing TF code, but I have no idea how to connect it and just generally how to get it to work. Does anyone know any good resources to use for me to understand it?
