Interesting PMTools update

...for STEAM hackers :D

* ported to Linux
* added support for running PMTools on dedicated servers as well as listenservers (some listenserver-specific commands won't work though)
* added THIS function :
Quote:

extract [path/filename] [path/new_name (optional)]
Extracts the specified filename from the PAK filesystem or the Steam
cache and dump it under the same name or using a new name in the
directory where it was found or in a directory of your choice. Note that
1°) the source file must exist in the Steam cache and 2°) the destination
directory must exist on your disk!
hey hey, no need for complicated Steam protocol h@x0rage, using LOAD_FILE_FOR_ME() coupled with a dumb fwrite() you can dump the whole Steam cache ALL LEGALLY !!!! :D :D :D

It was so simple... catches everything: BSP files, models, server and client DLLs, engine stuff, everything !

Handy eh ? I'm currently playing the new CS 1.6 maps in CS 1.5... ;)

....seems it's much more simple than my UltraEdit (binary editor) hack. l33t ! :)

addition: about the "all legally" thing... after all I don't know for other countries. In France at least, it is (the law permits the end user to disassemble/reverse-engineer software when it's for making a software work on architectures or configurations where it wouldn't natively). Hence it's legal for me to dump the Steam cache and take the resources I need to put them in CS 1.5 and enjoy the CS 1.6 features without Steam (which doesn't work more often than it does).

*bump*

I've updated PMTools to have it display the whole trace results structure when you fire TraceLines or TraceHulls, and the ability to specify the ignore walls and monsters flags. Handy for developers...

Re: Interesting PMTools update

yes, it can unpack anything, provided you know where the file you want to extract is and what's its name :)

You can find all the filenames by hexediting the gcf :D
