CS : CZ - The bot

Well guys, i have seen it in live-action (finally). A friend of mine bought CS CZ ... (just to get CS:S for godsake... omg). Anyway, i saw the bots; they move smooth, and pretty impressive with their 'voice communication'.

I just have to say ; darn... we are screwed in that manner. I read on the news that the CPL uses the bots ... because 'they where the best they tested'. Hence, i do not recall any 'annoucnements' of tests or whatsoever ; nor i recieved a mail or something. Although this is not required, it would 'enlighten' me as a 'fair competition'. I want to see RESULTS dammit.

Anyway, this stinks. I feel like a bit of a 'kid running behind the big dady' now. :(

Never give up hope!
I'm a big fan of Mike Booth's bot. In most areas, CSBot is superior. I am also a big fan of Realbot and the upcoming RACC. Realbot definatly beats CSBot's auto navigation system (which you have to manually edit on almost all custom maps). And RACC definately has CSBot beat when it comes to nade throwing. You guys could create a super killer bot if you all coded a bot together! Have you and PMB applied to Turtle Rock Studios? CSBot will also be ported over to the Source engine, so I guess it's here to stay. There is still no perfect bot out there, but the three bots mentioned here are the best!

Hmmm, I think there may be some confusion here.

This is a cut from http://www.unitedadmins.com/

"This year at the CPL (http://www.thecpl.com), CSBot will be the featured method of relaying live server statistics to spectators and enthusiasts on IRC. After an intense testing period, the CPL IRC officials selected CSBot as being the best HL-related scorebot."

They are talking about a scorebot for giving the public, stats from the events. :D

yea there is an IRC CSBot for score keeping, however the CSBot we're talking about is the "Official Counter-Strike bot for Condition Zero." Phew, that's a long name... visit http://www.turtlerockstudios.com for more info.

OK, I was under the impression that Stefan had missunderstood the news he read.

I think you are right though, the bot used for CPL is a score bot called CSBot (the IRC bot), that's what I interpreted from reading PHL news, it wasn't talking about mikes bot, I don't think.

stefan may well have mis-interpreted that ;)

To be honest - I wouldn't make a bot for CS:S, because its supposed to have CSBot as a part of it. Its a good bot, not perfect - but good enough that most people will ignore other 3rd party bots simply because the bot that comes with the game is decent enough.

Same thing happened to the Quake3 community - its bots were good enough that all of the 3rd party bot projects have died. :(

Unless the official bot for a game is so weak its a joke, its really hard to get anyone to care about a 3rd party bot for a game that already has one.

But, on the other hand - theres plenty of good games out there (and mods too, if your only interested in HL/HL2) that desperately need a good bot, but don't have one (like RTCW in my case).

i mis-read the news page i guess. Its so damn confusing when they talk a bot CSBot... it could be mike's or it could be another bot!? eek

There are many other games, true, but i do not play them :S

i have RTCW bought once, i should reinstall it i guess. And i need a new computer if i ever want to play the 'new' games out there decently ... :)
