Cheaters are back!

For almost a year I didn't have to deal with cheaters -at-all- now, EVERY day someone is wallhacking and using aimbot on my server.

What the heck is going on?
I guess valve is "behind" again...
Is there an eamil to report cheaters to valve?

Valve will always be behind the cheaters. Every time a fix is released, a new cheat is also released.

There might a thread in the Steam forums for a blacklist of cheaters, but I don't know. Valve doesn't ban people from Steam for cheating, so telling them wouldn't do much.

I guess the only thing you can do is just have someone watching the server and be ready to ban the idiots who cheat.

Hmm, I wouldn't just depend on vac... CD is pretty good, and it's third party, and updated quite often last I remember. ;)

Then Why did we go amost a year without seeing one cheater on my server, and it wasn't jsut because it was turned off for three months ;-)

Also, I don't want to burden the server with extra software like cd but thanks for the recommendation. The server is pretty tight, with mostly ABS members playing on it, of which most are admins. Of the few non ABS who connect the cheaters are obvious to us right away, but still a pain to deal with.

I remember before hearing that punkbuster supported the HL engine... first off, if this was even true, why the heck did they stop? punkbuster's probably the best anti-cheat system made. Works great on the Battlefield series, SOFII (<< uber-hacked game.. really needs PB on all the time or I'd die.), and a couple other good titles.

Yeah, CD's nice, but it sucks how the clients have to have it installed n' running on your comp for it to work... at least for games like BF series with PB you just click "enable" and then never worry aboot it ever again. ;)

Cheating died out for a while because people were getting caught.. on a massive scale, valve found a way to crack down on the general DLL hooking methods used when steam was released, but since then, people have been working on hacking it again, and it seems the hacking community has been off again.. They are appearing on CS:Source now as well.. There will never be a perfect way to stop them, you just need to keep your server admining tight. and be careful not to grab people using common sence (I've been banned so many times from servers for that :()

A row with valve about the source code of half life and stuff thats why pb buggered off to battlefield.

It is really bad of Valve not to update VAC more often. With Steam they have all the options of keeping cheaters away. Being able to send out new anti-cheat patches every second day is one of the few good things about Steam.

I agree with Zacker here. IMO they should have a permanent crew dedicated to it and only it.

They should try to make it compativle to CD, too... I hate to almost get on a server and get disconnected because I had CD on...
