These Cs:s Bots, why?

Why are they so heavy on the processor, My intel 2.46GHz can barely cope with 7 bots.
I wonder if valve would just use their cs bot and import it to HL2DM.
Of course it would'nt be a simple import, but my point is what processor do you need to have it run stable with at least 8 player (7 bots + player on listenserver)
And I would like to see which preforms better for this kind of application/game.

So far I have seen intel 2.66 522fsb handle them okay.
But I want to take into account limiting factors such as configeration of system and components.

Heyyo,

Yeah, their massive cpu hogs eh? Either sloppy coding, or it does a heckova lot of checks...

I dunno how difficult it would be. If you type in the console "nav_generate" or any nav command, it does the stuff from the cssbot.. so it could be secretly planned or just a small bug cause in order to run HL2dm you need both the gcf's for hl2 and css.

i bet the nav_generate thing is not even CSS specific... it looks to me as if it was built in because of the HL2 AI ;)

I've found that me compy normally blazes my bot server, but I occasionally get his with major lag. Very frusterating, pauses for 3 seconds, when it comes back I'm dead.

? My linux dedicated doesnt even twitch. Just had a practice session with my clan for tactics, 8 players vs 8 bots, didnt even flinch ... When do you experience those lags. Might get Alfred Reynolds to test it out with the performance analyser if it tests out ....

It happens semmingly at random times, I've not noticed what could be causing it. My ping is always fine, it just 'hangs'. This is the only game that does this to me.

I've never bothered to look into why it does this, as the main thing I did with Counter Strike was play over LANs, but thanks to Steam I can't do that anymore.

maybe your pc is loading stuff off your hdd, maybe at this time the hdd is in standby, hence the hang. Or you could have ervil spyware lurking which doubt since that would affect other games.

nav_generate is used when creating a nav file from scratch in conjunction with nav_set_walkable_area
I've got a pretty good list here:

It is in need of an update however...

It could be loading something, which is bot's fault, as this is the only time it does this. I'm positive its not spyware, for a Windows box my PC is very clean and secure.

I get slow down when action heats up and maybe a delay when the round changes when there is quite a bit of action.
Have you tried running around without the bots in the game or just one bot.
What processor are you using since it could be that it is runnning quite high in usage terms.

Does anyone know the specs of the large servers running cs with bots are?
