:( :'( I JUST WANNA PLAY!!!

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

the update always stops after a few percent of the download...

dead bwoy 03-03-2004 20:23

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

yea mine keeps stopping @ 99% then dropping back down to 30%!
It's done this about 5 times now!!!:( :'( >:(
hldsupdatetool keeps hanging........
==================================================
Well... my client update is done!
after a re-launch and some more updates...
taking the hl2 survey...
hung up for a good 10-15 min now so i gave up and had to ctrl+alt+1337 that b!@tch!!!
relaunched steam and bypassed the survey...
golden...
==================================================
no noticible changes except the exit and logout option from the steam icon in the systray... what a hassle... how do i buy games? oh well, seems pointless now...
==================================================
WOW!!! my hlds is finally up to date after numerous hang-ups! And by the way, the "exit" option allows you to play offline... first time I exited out using "exit" It said I had exited and logged out... um, no! then I logged in and used "exit" again. When I tried to reconnect, "Could not connect to steam network... ??? continue in offline mode" <click>
Game unavailable to play in offline mode... CRAP! oh well!

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

did you reset your password?
I got no such e-mail and my previous password worked fine!
I did get a syntax error: the command still works although the syntax has changed!

yes the syntax has changed, but i had to modefy it before it worked, if you run the hlds updatetool in a "dos" window (window start ->run (not sure) -> cmd) you will get a list with new commands if you follow that you will get an e-mail and you won't get the syntax error anymore.

dead bwoy 03-03-2004 21:52

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

yea i did change the syntax b4 it worked w/o hanging up
i did NOT however get any such e-mail...

T!m 03-03-2004 21:56

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

thats weird ?!? anyone

btw. i did create the user name again (exectly the same as it was) , perhaps thats why.

dead bwoy 03-03-2004 22:00

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

I can almost guarantee that's what it was
you should have used -login instead of -create

T!m 03-03-2004 22:03

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

I did that first, woud'nt work but mabye i made a typo
but then again why the password, and why verify it IF steam ask for it.

well, they announced this at their mailing lists...

I can't even use the hldsupdatetool nor the easyupdatetool.exe by kaoticelites.

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

whats your error with hldsupdatetool?

DreamLord34 04-03-2004 01:18

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

Actually, it's working now. It was giving me a system error but I had just finished doing a windows update but hadn't restarted due to a download I was doing so that might have caused it.
How long did it take to update your servers using the update tool?
Mine's hanging on Verifying: D:\hlserver2\platform\Admin\DialogAddBan.res

Anyone know what this warning means;
WARNING! Using deprecated syntax! Run tool without commands to see new syntax?

dead bwoy 04-03-2004 01:37

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

yea yea,
hanging due to high traffic!
i saw steam was over their own set bandwidth limit of 4Mbps, cannot stay connected to valve content servers!
===========================================
you must type "hldsupdatetool.exe" to see the new syntax...

DreamLord34 04-03-2004 01:54

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

I use the easyhldsupdatetool.exe which is a heckuva lot easier then typing out hldsupdatetool.exe -update cstrike etc each time.

dead bwoy 04-03-2004 01:59

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

yeah they just made much more difficult at first.
after you enter everything once, all you have to type is "hldsupdatetool" I imagine you could even run it from windows (not having to enter anything into the command prompt)

DreamLord34 04-03-2004 02:05

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

All I gotta do with this is click on the update button.

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

PM are you sure your game is up to date? (properties on cs icon)
Keep them always up to date.
I got the same problem yesterday...
Now it works, but after 6 hours of loooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng update..

Terran 04-03-2004 12:38

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

I updated this morning (CET) within 2 minutes :D

Pierre-Marie Baty 04-03-2004 13:04

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

it appears that quitting Steam and launching it again fixed the problem.

Fiber, lucky DSL man, I just CANNOT make the games update themselves automatically! If I select "always keep this game up to date" in the Steam properties my 33k connection is DEAD! Simple !!

but in 6 months chances are that I might be able to get DSL... I cross fingers to the point of bending them over each other.

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

Steam Status

March 3, 2004, 8:09 pm · Erik Johnson Since this morning's update was released, the Steam network has been overloaded, causing many Steam users to be unable to login.

Until the Steam content servers are able to catch up with demand, some users will continue to experience slowness or unresponsiveness from the Steam client. We've been making some changes to the content servers today to accelerate this recovery, and we expect conditions to improve quite a bit by tomorrow morning.

Thanks, again, for your patience after this update.

In other words, get some better/more servers steam :)

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

And THIS is PROGRESS ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????????????
This is some of the worst I have seen yet...
Why not
1) stick to well defined releases.
2) make them availible on CD-ROm or at lest
3) make the releases availible on many different mirror sites?

What would be wrong with that?
SOOOO glad I havn't tried 1.6 yet..

And who (what manager + non-CS player) decided there should be a SHIELD?

>BKA< T Wrecks 05-03-2004 11:22

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

I didn't understand all that steam nonsense in the first place, that's why I'm still on 1.5.
I don't see a point in first buying a game and then be dependent on weekly patches that can consume hundreds of MB and hours of online time each. That's like throwing all analog modem users out of CS altogether (see PMB's complaint).
But in fact, I already failed to understand the policy behind earlier CS patches (up to 1.5). Why did they have to include all maps and all the other mods (TFC, FA, Ricochet, etc.) in this one patch? All I wanted was the new CS version - I never asked for TFC! This way, the patch was well above 100 MB ( = forget it, if you're on a 56k like I was then). However, you could at least get this patch on many mirror servers and even on CD-ROMS included in PC magazines. And now? Even worse...
Oh yeah, and the shield... I guess I wouldn't even mind so much if this shield weren't so exaggerated, but according to what my friends said, you can empty your para into that shield without even hurting the player behind it...
Well, 1.6... I'm not sure if I'll ever really come to like it...

Onno Kreuzinger 05-03-2004 11:33

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

oh the shield should just shuld be avail to both sides, it aint no hightech, so a du***ss cam make that at home, its not even a weapon.
it is quite realistic, it's heavy and you just have to wait until the guy lowers it to shoot or run around him, or just jump, or shoot into the feet....

what makes me pissed are those ghosts slowly sinking into the ground, that is bullshit, i cant see my enemy because my mate is in my view, allthogh dead for some seconds. does anybody know how to get rid of that s**t, is there a magic option ?

cheers memed

p.s. i just posted my comments about the rest of steam to offtopic, i send a mail to support@steam...

/edit
whew, how many typos can one person make ...

Pierre-Marie Baty 05-03-2004 14:56

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

A magic option ?

Hocus Pocus Abracadabraaaaaaa
Code:

int Spawn (edict_t *pent)
{
  if (strncmp (STRING (pent->v.classname), "weapon_shield", 13) == 0)
          RETURN_META_VALUE (MRES_SUPERCEDE, 0);

  RETURN_META_VALUE (MRES_IGNORED, 0);
}

*edit* oh, you want to get rid of the corpses perhaps ?
Code:

  if (strcmp (STRING (pent->v.classname), "bodyque") == 0)
          RETURN_META_VALUE (MRES_SUPERCEDE, 0);

Barbarian methods, as usuals.

Onno Kreuzinger 05-03-2004 15:08

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

oh and where to put that code and what to compile :-)
i honestly want that corpses gone, its by far the most anoying, because it not real (*g* the rest is, for shure *g*).

:D

waiting for PMB to come home from work

Pierre-Marie Baty 05-03-2004 15:21

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

in a metamod plugin....

just wait until 6PM when I finish my work, I'll try and compile one for you. It'll require 5 minutes, no more.

Excellent point. If you want to update CS then why all the other mods as well? Also why all the maps when they didn't change?

So to be sure the upgrades go ok, just send everythign out!
So how difficult would it be to do two installs, one of each version, diff them and then only send the necessary files? Valve are you listening?

Para into a riot shield and no damage how realistic is that?

If I ever go 1.6 that plugin is a necesary plugin..
Go.Go.GO!

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

correct me if i am mistaken, but this most recent update was strictly a STEAM update, no mod updates...
also, when using hldsupdatetool for hlds, you can type hldsupdatetool -command update -game cstrike
this command updates to current version of HLDSUpdateTool, STEAM platform, and CStrike version; if it needs it...
ie: last update i did to my server only needed HLDSUpdateTool and STEAM platform updates (not cstrike)
Im guessing I wont get any more updates if I go back and use HLDSUpdateTool -command update -game dod

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

Pierre-Marie did you have time for that metamod no-corpse plugin *g*
now (day t +3) all my mates are back online, we zipped the updated version and copied the cd to everybody. it works like a charm, besides the pain of two days lost *g*

Pierre-Marie Baty 06-03-2004 17:04

Re: Steam Update Is Here!

actually I must confess that I'm unable to make such a plugin because after investigation it appears that the CS corpses are not normal entities, they're part of the player class and are handled specially :( I was unable to figure out what entity to hide using my PMTools, which simply means that I was looking for something that did not exist. I'm sorry... I really don't know how it is possible to hide a corpse by programming. Are you sure there is no server CVAR in Counter-Strike to hide the corpses or make them fade away ?
