a couple of questions

the racc looks like it is going to be one of the best bots. the web site seems pretty unclear, what version is the latest one now? is it compatible with 1.5 and 1.6?

GreenMan 04-02-2004 20:37

Re: a couple of questions

the current version (main branch, template #2) supports 1.5, but 1.6 is completely unsupported at the moment (is that right PMB?), template #2 i find isnt very stable though (the bots on my version dont move or do anything after the first round), but you might like to try template #1, that MIGHT work fine (i havent tried it)

if you have version 1.3 you can play the "secondary branch", which is very stable but old

Pierre-Marie Baty 04-02-2004 22:00

Re: a couple of questions

One point I'd like to make, is that the "templates" are not the RACC source code. They are development kits for people who want to make their own bot or dig into this one for interesting stuff. The templates are useful to programmers. They are NOT meant to be playable bots.

in template #1 the bots don't move at all, because it's up to the programmer to code their AI.

in template #2 the bots do move around and shoot stuff, but it's a VERY basic AI (similar to the one in the secondary branch) to help programmers appreciate the sensing and motile parts of the bots.

Both of them have been developed on CS 1.5 with all the PAK files expanded (this is necessary for the navmesh to work). I haven't tested any of them with CS 1.6 since my CS 1.6 install is corrupted and it asks me to redownload the whole cache, thing I can't do since I'm behind a very slow RTC modem.

P-M B, I'll download it for you and send you the cd if you want?

What do you want, cssteam for win or/and linux?
hlds for win or/and linux?

Re: a couple of questions

what about al the cool fatures of the this bot that is mentioned?
any release date?

Pierre-Marie Baty 05-02-2004 14:46

Re: a couple of questions

[BBB]sluggo, that would be great ! :)
Someone from the mEAn forums already sent me a Steam CD by snail mail but when I received it it was broken... so if you do ensure you wrap it into some stuff... and ensure it has a plastic case :)
If you could get me the Steam cache for CS for Windows (and if you want include the Steam cache for other MODs as well) that would be great... I already have HLDS by the way. Get in touch with me when you want to know my address

@wentsen: sorry, no release date... I can't give any... I've got a job to earn me a living, and I can't code the bot 8 hours a day like a professional coder would... it's rather 30 minutes a day in average these days because I've got a lot of other stuff to do. But soon, when it'll be playable enough, I'll do like Stefan and post WIP versions :)

*rofl* : Baty... :-)
[sounds like Betty or batty]

PMB sound more like Pierre Makes Bots, so i'll stick with that *g*

he (PMB) uses an analog phone (not dsl) modem, so downloading a cd is about not beeing able to phone for days....

@PMB, i'm dld'ing the 700+ MB cache file (all inclusive), in 3 hrs i will walk to the post office, im optimistic to have you snail mail address until then (if you want or not 8), i can use google)....

Cheers memed

Re: a couple of questions

lol hey, don't fight for who will be the one to send me stuff :D

Okay, the address at which you can send packs of beer, love letters, banknotes, birthday presents and (optionally) Steam CDs is

Pierre-Marie Baty
8 rue de Maupertuis
85700 Menomblet
France

oh and for love letters I take only girls letters you sickos :D

after all I don't think I am risking something great if I put my address here for public reading :)

Onno Kreuzinger 06-02-2004 15:31

Re: a couple of questions

i knew allready :-)
you have a nice online phonebook's for france, one is even in german, but only knows an other Baty at that address, oh and i found your CV ;)
it is allready online at BU *g*

Cheers

P.S.
ah and i don't send beer anywhere, our beer is called Kölsch (comes from the city name cologne) and it's not suitable for drinking more that 100km away from cologne... It won't survive the transport and may not be brewed more than 80km from cologne, but AFAIK your whine is a good reason to skip beer alltogheter :P

Wow memed be carefull. If I'm right this cs 1.6 is non steam... so illegal... use it at your own risks..

Re: a couple of questions

Hmm, who will send the cd:s? I don't care if someone else sends them, the main thing is PMB get's them.

Hi,

PMB has a 48kbit link, dld'ing 700MB seems no reasonable option ;)

Re: a couple of questions

cs16full_v6.exe is ILLEGAL SOFTWARE.

As stated in our FBRC (http://www.bots-united.com/member-rules.html) posting warez is NOT AN ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR at Bots United.

SnoZid: as this forum's moderator I must give you a warning ; persist supporting warez or providing links to illegal software and you will be banned from this board. >:(

Re: a couple of questions

Heyyo,

Yeah, the idea behind it is cool, but yeah, it's illegal cause it's a full copy, and it isin't fair to people who bought either Half - Life, or the Counter - Strike retail, or anyother HL mod.

[EDIT]
BTW, yes, I did try it, and dude, the animations suck, it's pre-final v1.6 release, as in the beta, and can't use any steam servers onnit cause you have to 1st log into steam, so it says "ou're not logged in!" and so, you'd have to use cracked servers which are illegal...

CS is a great mod, and I'd say: YES, it's worth the money :)

I'll admit this, cause I was still in highschool n' what not, I diddn't have a legal copy of CS, cause I couldn't afford it, but now that I'm not in H.S. I can finally afford a legal copy, and I'm gonna buy it tmorrow. :)

Yeah, I was waypointin' on a illegal version of CS, but soon, if I ever update my waypoints? it'll be 100% legal. :D

Sure, some stuff out there on the market ain't worth your money, but for stuff like CS and Halo (I bought halo right away, 1st game I ever played online on my new ADSL modem too :D) give respect to the makers, and buy the game.

I hope this insight will help you realise that gaming does run on a honor system, you can choose to pay or not, it's just good conscience to buy it to show respect, and to encourage new development of new games and mods. :)

SnoZid 16-02-2004 12:04

Re: a couple of questions

sorry didn't that was the leaked version of steam...Have pay for my hl version... as MarD mention.."YES, it's worth the money"

Again sorry....

cs16full_v6.exe is ILLEGAL SOFTWARE.!!!!!

MarD 17-02-2004 01:01

Re: a couple of questions

Heyyo,

Yeah dude, I bought it, and.. yeouch, it cost me like $40 canadian... lol, I hoped the price would've gone down over the years.. meh, the game gave me many years o' fun, I gotta pay respects to gearbox... even though they diddn't do too good of a job with Good ol' Halo for PC. :P

Ya gotta admit, the network code ain't that good, verry laggy when vehicles flip n' stuff, especially when players fall out of the hogs... but I still play Halo like crazy cause I love the gameplay, like CS. :)

Pierre-Marie Baty 18-02-2004 09:39

Re: a couple of questions

Sorry, I can't give you any release date. There are days where I can spare 3 hours of my time coding the bot, but there are also days where I don't have time to do anything. I've got a job and a life, also, please understand.

We're getting closer, that's all I can say.

MarD 19-02-2004 00:36

Re: a couple of questions

Heyyo,

PM, take your time codin' man, cause a rushed product will always suck compared to that product that took a while to make.

All you people remember Prince of Persia 1? wasn't that a great little game? that little game took 3 YEARS for that 1 dude to make. Count em', 3!.. o_O

So if RACCbot took another couple of months, trust me, it'll be worth it. I better not give any other examples or I'll be typin' forever. :P

Well, HL2 would've been a good example, but they keep lying, so they're bulls*it. lol
