** service disruption 6th October 2005 **
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Unfortunately both server-one and server-two (main and standby server) have faced a noticeable downtime today. This downtime was caused by an unexpected change in network infrastructure at the hosting site. This can be considered an "own goal" and is not the fault of anyone from outside. We expected the dhcp to supply the servers with ip addresses, although we have static IP addresses assigned and the default server install did use static ip assignment. Since yesterday the dhcp did not renew the IP addresses each time the lease time ended. During the fix up several other minor problems and issues have been dealt with, only visible during an on-site check (local boot console). This was "possible" because a significant amount of time was spend debugging, sorry for the trouble this has caused. Best Regards Onno |
Re: ** service disruption 6th October 2005 **

|
Re: ** service disruption 6th October 2005 **

|
Re: ** service disruption 6th October 2005 **

but first, thx to onno for posting here that the problems has been on the server side. the mailserver problem is only for server-two, server-one looks fine |
Re: ** service disruption 6th October 2005 **
When the mail server will be fixed?
|
Re: ** service disruption 6th October 2005 **
I'm glad to hear it wasn't a major problem. I too would like to know when e-mail is coming back. As a active bot developer, I'm using my BU account to stay in touch with
users and fellow devs. |

Re: ** service disruption 6th October 2005 **
I get a "connection refused" when I try to check my mail.
|
Re: ** service disruption 6th October 2005 **
I seem to be able to connect to it just fine.. not sure if it's actually working since I never get any mail but I can connect to it..
|
Re: ** service disruption 6th October 2005 **
I confirm : the mail server doesn't work.
Since nobody seems to be working on it, I will. >:( |
Re: ** service disruption 6th October 2005 **
Okay. The courier-auth daemon in /etc/init.d refuses to start (pidof: invalid argument on command-line). Grepping in the whole /etc tree, nothing calls pidof.
Someone must have touched it. Nova, is it you ? What did you do ? If I knew what has been done I'd know where to look. |
Re: ** service disruption 6th October 2005 **
I'll take care of it.

Re: ** service disruption 6th October 2005 **
Just for my information, what was it ?
|
Re: ** service disruption 6th October 2005 **
a ; too many in the init file, plus a fucked up sasl daemon config :D
|
Re: ** service disruption 6th October 2005 **
Weird. I thought the problem was completely external to the server ? So who messed it up ?
BTW that sloganizer thing is sweet :D |
Re: ** service disruption 6th October 2005 **
No, the problem was internal. Messed up thru a fucked up update / me not being careful enuf.
Oh, and ricks problem was simple caused by the fact that the restored /etc/postfix/virtual file (after we lost the virtual file) didnt contain his entry's, it was just a matter of restoring them :D Seb |
