Grattis pä födelsedagen? (http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Bistro/5025/happy_en.htm ;))

TruB 11-08-2005 12:56

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

yeah thats it
btw its "på"

grattis/congratulation
på/on
födelse/birth
dag/day

the "en" in dag'en' makes it strong.. like: the day.

Some people say its fairly easy. It seems more logic than dutch(dutch is a mess IMO). Also some words are the same or simulair only you write them different(västkust - westkust, byrån - bureau(buro), Välkommen - welkom).
Can't really comment on the grammer though. But if I know some words the sentence makes sence to me.

I beg to disagree... I can't understand a thing of german... Actually, I can. "Halt!", "Verbotten" and "Amerikanisch!". Thank you Medal of Honor and B&W WWII movies.

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

ive had classes in the german language in 4 years time in my junoir age.. still cant talk it.. but i understand some..

i guess i had more importent things to do back then.. like talk to the girls at the same table.. i wonder how come they managed so good..

german is nearly as ugly as french :D i prefer english, so much easier. Only problem is, english isnt precise enuf, too vague and ambiguous, especially for affairs of the heart.

And that's why I prefer portuguese, the only language that has one word for the "I miss you" feeling... Saudade.

Leagle 12-08-2005 12:40

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

I disagree. English has multiple words that greatly, (but not completely) overlap in meaning. You have to get the feel for the word though, before you can choose the right word, (not the "correct", note) for what you want to get across.

And then the meaning of words and phrases varies a lot depending on the area, especially since so many countries speak English as a native language.

TruB 13-08-2005 11:23

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

so what country is laziest to learn outher languages.. could it be france or maybe china?

Rick 13-08-2005 12:12

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

Should be france...PMB is one of the few frenchman who happen to know english too ;)

and german as well - even though you don't like long words ( that's like in french. just remove the 'de', reverse the order of the words, translate them separately and attach one to the other ). although I guess there are quite some germans who cannot use their language when it comes to those topics :D

Pierre-Marie Baty 16-08-2005 16:30

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

At some point you stop using the language and you start using the tongue, things usually get a lot simpler after that :D

Nova 16-08-2005 16:39

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

rofl. yeh i heard something about french girls being able to use their tongues really well ... :D just didnt think it ACTUALLY meant talking *evil grin*

i like it around here.. some communities (or atleast one) closes topic when as soon as one person seem to go sidetracking.. its annoying as hell.. and if someone got a problem.. and someone answers.. its closed.. admins who constantly wants to prove to them self that they still can do it..

Heyyo,

Yes, and we have like, civilized forum posters man, I love it hea at BU. Best forum I've ever been on man. :D

Anywho, happy b-day onno, and I'm with PMB, french is definately one of the main languages of love. It rocks. German? never thought they'd be one, let's see an example of german being a language of love. ;)

@$3.1415rin 16-08-2005 21:37

well, rather in terms of accuracy than in terms of love :)

German always sounds so.. angry. But then maybe that because most of the German I'm exposed to comes from watching WW2 movies and playing Wolfenstein. :)
