AMD processors temperature
Can someone tell me what is the normal temperature for working AMD processor? I have AMD 2400XP (real frequence is 2000MHz , but AMD calls it in the name as 2400) and I use some utility ASUS Probe for my motherboard Asus A7V600 and it tells me it's 62°C and I'm afraid it might be a bit too high. The cooler placed at the radiator on that processor is working very silent, but maybe because of this it's not cooling my processor like it should do it and maybe I need to replace it by the new one with higher efficiency (means -> more noisy). Re: AMD processors temperature
i think 62 degrees is a bit too high yes.

Re: AMD processors temperature
Perhaps replace it. My 3200+ runs at worst about 45 degrees, and thats on a hot day after running for a couple of days straight.
Normally on a good day its about 38 degrees, maybe. |
Re: AMD processors temperature
Depends on modification of proc (low voltage or not). Check the string with blahblah2400blah on proc itself. The final two letters (they should be after the 2400) in it.
62 degrees is normal for non-LV. LV is mod primarly made for mobile systems (notebooks, pocket pc's) that was ported to PC version of crystal. Uses less voltage and thus radiates less heat. |
Re: AMD processors temperature
I have an AMD Athlon XP 2000+ (1.7 GHz), and it's currently running @ 55ºC (AsusProbe). But I have the air conditioner on, anyway... :P

Re: AMD processors temperature
62°C is in the high end, but still nothing serious. AMD processors have a die temperature at around 95 degrees.
The amount of emitted noise have very little to do with how good it is a cooling your cpu. Btw. I have had my Athlon XP at 89°C! I had mounted the cooler a little wrong when building my comp, so when I checked the temp in bois just 20 secs after booting, it was that high! Damn it went fast to cut the power:D I have never had any troubles with it since though. It's a 3200 running around ~45 degrees under load. Thats with good chassis cooling, cooling paste and a good cooler. |
Re: AMD processors temperature
my amd 64 3200+ i think is somewhere right above 50°C

Re: AMD processors temperature
my p4 is currently at 41°C at full usage of 'folding at home' ...

Re: AMD processors temperature
95 degrees? I know for a fact that the AMD in my WoodPuter (c)(r)(tm) dies at 75.
If you want good cooling and low noise, get a big CPU fan. The bigger the fan, the slower you can make it spin for the same result. I have a 12-cm fan over my CPU, it's the only fan in the box, and it makes less noise than everything. |
Re: AMD processors temperature
I think he's confusing Fahrenheit and Celsius.
well summertime it's usually around 40°C. winter time around 30°C. and when I run HL2 for a long time 50°C. |
Re: AMD processors temperature
Also make sure any case fans provide a decent air flow through the case, instead of just blowing air back upon itself. It seems an obvious thing, but is therefore often overlooked.

Re: AMD processors temperature
nice winter you have there in north america, with 30°C ;)
only funny that the temperature rises when you play hl2 :| |
Re: AMD processors temperature
My hlds server with an AMD XP2000 CPU running 24/7
CPU temperature is average 48 °C Room temperature is about 20 °C to 25 °C depending on the weather. MoBo temp at 36 °C |
Re: AMD processors temperature
I was talking about Celsius degrees...

Re: AMD processors temperature
OK - finally my AMD CPU temperature is at 53°C if nothing especially is working (only Mozilla and some not taking CPU's power applications (before it was about 60°C). After playing 30 minut with 15 bots CS1.5 DS and client at the same PC - the temperature reached about 60°C (yesterday I've tryied it was about 73°C !!!). 8D
The noise is now a bit bigger - the fan on the CPU has been replaced (before about 1800 RPM , now about 2600 RPM) and I also've put some little fan at my A340T Leadtek Winfast (FX5200) VGA card (the radiator was hot - almost impossible touch it, so I 've been afraid about it). Couldn't find the temperaure of the FX5200 - Winfox doesn't show me it, but I'm sure when I had GF2 MX400 - there was some screen with the temperature of chipset. Maybe this card doesn't have it and that's why Winfox doesn't show me it? 9_9 |
Re: AMD processors temperature
i still find it quite hot when its doing nothing... did you place new cooling pasta? I've heard it is really important how you clean, and re-apply it so it makes a perfect connection...
|
Re: AMD processors temperature
Yeah - I cleaned both - stick part of CPU and radiator - then I've put a new cooling pasta. Aftre monting radiator on the CPU I've put on it the new fan. I guess it's good now. ;)

Re: AMD processors temperature
Some radiator/fans are designed to lift the air up from your CPU ; others are designed to blow the air down on it. Maybe your fan was spinning backwards.
Personally I've found that forcing the air down works much better anyway. |
Re: AMD processors temperature
Both my fans - the previous one and the current one - blow the air down - in the radiator/CPU direction. :)
