Who's who

I had an idea the other day, ya know... You know that thingie above the avatar, that shows your "position" @ BU (example: mine shows up "member", PMB's shows up "Council Member"...)?
Well, I think we should put something like: "Creator of [bot/plugin/utility name]/[position]", so new ppl here could figure out who's who. Let me give you an example.

Pierre-Marie Baty
Creator of RACC Bot/Council Member

In this case, the bot creation would have priority over the BotAim plugin or other utilities he may have created, unless he wants otherwise ;)

We could also create a new "position", called "Waypointer"...

So, what do you think?

Re: Who's who

Could be useful, but just make sure that it doesn't clutter things up.

me.. 3D artist/offtopic spammer ;)

Re: Who's who

I like the idea.. and why not let people put the title they want in it ? (besides calling themselves "moderator" when they aren't...)

That would spice the forum up a bit for sure :)

von Ryan 15-05-2005 13:07

Re: Who's who

So, how are we going to implement this?

Pierre-Marie Baty 15-05-2005 13:28

Re: Who's who

I believe that needs a council vote first. I'll add a poll to your thread.

BTW, great idea to put a min. postcount limit. We have a lot of members that have, like, 1 or 2 posts...

Maybe it's a President or Councils should give all titles after ask for it by the people (to prevent this like described above)? Maybe some existing titles should be more clear for new people like "Moderator of podbot mm forum" instead "Moderator" only? Maybe President of BU should have a title "President" instead "Council Member" only? Etc..9_9

Re: Who's who

I like the basic idea because it actually has a practical use. However, I am against people being able to select anything they want. IMHO, it would be wise to keep any invitations for "forum whores" to the minimum. We have pretty small avatars and signatures, and that's good the way it is. There are enough forums full of brain-damaged kiddies who need 3 animated gifs in their sig (250 pixels high, of course), a huge avatar and a flashy custom title like "His royal 1337ness" or crap like that. It would only invite people to play around with that stuff instead of focusing on what's important.

So my 2 cents is: Some pre-defined functional titles (Bot creator/coder, President, Council Member, Super Mod, Mod for forum xyz, PHP maintainer, waypointer :D etc.) yes - free choice (and worse, flashy text formatting) for anyone, no. I don't like the "minimum post count" idea, either - sounds like just another invitation for forum whores to me.

But do what you want (bleh, as if you wouldn't do that anyway :D ) - I guess I won't cry and leave if the outcome of this poll differs from my opinion. Maybe the community here is even good (mature) enough to prevent any unpleasant side aspects from happening. 9_9

$eu_crey$$on, your avatar is hideous. I had to say that.

TruB 16-05-2005 15:34

Re: Who's who

i see a problem problem with custom.. altough i would like to have it for myself..

what if you set you own.. and someone or some have to confirm the choice of title before its used..

pre difened sounds nice.. however it requires alot of chioces.. how about a thread to suggest.. added if needed.. funny aswell as descibing.. like spammer..if you like me spends most of the time in offtopic..

i would like to have something along the lines "CG Artist"..

i kinda voted too..

stefanhendriks 16-05-2005 16:08

Re: Who's who

i voted for everybody. I don't think our members are that stupid to change their title that much. Also, most 'newbie members' do not even know how to set up a signature.

We could set up a rule at the FBRC for misc titles. Whenever they are not obeyed, we take action upon that.

Hmm... how do you guys think about an optical differentiation between "official" titles (the helpful ones) and non-official custom titles (the funny ones) ? Different font style or colour, bold vs. normal...?

lol.. most likely..i believe i think a bit too fast..

i had test today.. writing on hand is even worse.. i jump over words that i thought but not yet have written down..i see those i miss.. sometumes.. and have to put them between everything else.. it gets messy...

maybe i just have trouble thinking at the same time as i type.. but i dont think thats that case because i type really fast and can do so while have conversation.. i can even talk with somone else.. for a short period of time..

sry for the offtopic.. but the president started it.. 9_9

I think we should elect someone with power to change the description to receive the requests and modify (or not) the description...

Back on topic, that'd be a lot of bearocracy, Seu. I think let people go wild with it, but have rules clearly stated (no offensive language) and only after someone violates this should a moderator have to bother to step in.

Oh well, maybe you're right... 9_9

BTW, try ortography.

[EDIT]PMB beat me to it :P[/EDIT]

Re: Who's who

The people here are able to spam all possible topic existing here. :D
But the numbers don't lie - I guess this forum has the biggest percentage of posts in offtopic forum from all forums I was ever browsing. If someone could also add all post-spams in other BU forums - it would be a record for the Guinness book... :D
Maybe we should change the name of BU forum into Total Offtopic forum? ;)

HangFire 16-05-2005 22:29

Re: Who's who

I only visit the off-topic because nobody ever disscusses this subject in the bot development forums.

Re: Who's who

Im pro.
I voted the on the minimal post count thingy.
Although it doesn't have to be a post count limit. But there has to be some restriction.
I just want it to be used usefully.
If there's all kinda funny things or just titles at random it doesn't help much.
Then it just an extended signature / avatar option. 9_9

Still lacking the vote of 3 council members... (aspirin, nova, botmeister)

50 posts is ok with me, i have no problems with that.

then it's validated.

Watch out for the mess :)

stefanhendriks 17-05-2005 22:37

Re: Who's who

lol, well i actually said it was ok before. But i did not state the 50 post count. So i thought of re-approve this proposal.

Yay, now we mods really can get to work :P

KWo 19-05-2005 22:25

Re: Who's who

I may attest - this limitation with at least 50 posts doesn't work. I know one member with about 21 posts who just changed his title. :D

Heyyo,

Striking good idea, I say we do it after a certain amount of posts to prevent forum trolls from making it a bad idea. ;)

stefanhendriks 19-05-2005 23:18

Re: Who's who

too bad the title is limited to a few characters only?

maybe change:

char title[25];

into:

char title[125];

?? :P

Negative, too much... But I agree it's too short. Maybe 50 chars?

having that limit will only cause those forum troll to spam till they can do it..

KWo 20-05-2005 08:37

Re: Who's who

Yeah - 25 chars is too short. 50 would be OK.
Look at the titles of T Wrecks and Mard:

>BKA< T Wrecks vbmenu_register("postmenu_38540", true);
Moderator / Waypointer

MarD vbmenu_register("postmenu_38714", true);
Waypointer/Moderator

:D

>BKA< T Wrecks 20-05-2005 13:10

Re: Who's who

Well, I would have put "Moderator for PBmm & Waypointing forum / PBmm waypointer", but that was too long. Tigers need loooong spaces to store their tails in a comfy way, y'know... ;)

Just look at my sig to get an idea...

*gets an idea*

Hey, I will write the stuff into my sig!

*ROAR!* 8D Man, sometimes I'm so smart that I overwhelm myself. :P

Re: Who's who

I like this idea. A minimum post count like it is now is also good.
