Source Cathedral pics!!
Here is what Pierres Cathedral should look like if it were made in source.....with the inside opened up!!! I told you it would work Pierre.

a suggestion... the interior... you deleted the 2 rows of arches on the side and replaced them with a low ceiling, I suppose the arches were stressing the engine too much... but now the ceiling is too *cough* flat, so to say. You should put some decoration between these pillars. Did you keep the wooden stuff under the roof ? :) I wish I had time to play with all that Source mapping stuff :) |

i did not keep the wood things....they would not benefit the kz style of the map at all.
yes im still wondering what to do with that flat part :) it might even be something similar to the way you had it but without the second floor part....just some of those arches there between the columns i just placed a flying pidgeon in the map...and changed all those gay hanging industrial lights to CHANDELIERS! looks frickin hot like that |

I can't wait to see how it turns out when you're finished. I recently tried out kz_faw_cathedral_e, and only one word came to mind: impossible. I'm quite unskilled in the art of jumping. :o Maybe you could release a non-kz version of this new map when you're done? Either way, it's beautiful. Nice work! |

thanks..you should try kz_faw_cathedral_h....not even the best pr0s can finish the map without checkpoint systems :)
but i made it this way to give them a challenge. i can finish easy one myself nowaydays jumping good takes a lot of practice :) |

i not retexturing anything...im not adding polies because its near the limit as it is. There are already 25 custom textures in this piece....what would you change?
this is what it looks like right now tho: There are now 3 places where you will be breaking the nice windows to get inside on the whole path around the cathedral. those gay shortcuts are history hehe. I also added some nice lighting effects, a flying pidgeon and my originally wanted chandeliers for the inside instead of those ugly industrial hanginig lights....now looking 10 times better. i really am at my limits.....of jumpability...i got it back down from giving me performance pops by getting rid of some of the extra lights i had all over the inside.......the models were knocking up the performance.
if you see the weay the columns are built...it would take a lot of rebuilding as well to get more arches there....but tis the fps that are biting at me not to make this as real as i, of course, could make it. its not that i dont want it to look better :) |

wow so in the valve hammer editor you already measured how many units for the type of jumps that you needa do in tha map ( example : short jump med long etc )
that structure at the top is cool u going to add any more stories or other variaous stuff around the map ??? |

no, the map is nearly finished....and its pretty near limits as it is....simply because the whole map is viewable...its a pretty short course as it was in the cs version. i simply have to fix a few small things and get the soundscapes working right.
so heres our first tool model. this is a typical mountain climbers tool. See how the shine on the silver part of it is actually different in each pic....it reflects the environment too ! To climb those pesky cliffs, Cathedrals, and mountains of dead corpses that lay in your way to the other side of the map... lol. ya know what would be cool? if you could stick a dead body with this and use it as a shield like the CS 1.6 riot shield... I know, I'mma freak.. I'll start filling out papers to sending myself to the nearest insane asylum within the hour. :P |

couse the maps seem to be very large ??? did u have much trouble moving over to the new engine ??? |

it took me a while to get used to but now im pr0?

Superb, as usuals.
One thing you always tend to miss in your maps are the decorations on the walls. On the first pic you should put two or three posters on them, or boards, tags, dirt or whatever (personally I'd see industrial accident prevention posters, such as "wear masks to be safe" etc). I say you always tend to miss it because I noticed that in other maps, after being wondering for a while what could cause that bizarre impression that despite the realism of the scene something was missing. |

ok first Pierre:
ive added a lot of decals...even to the first picture its right in the middle saying caution hehe.....but yes these are older screens and ive added more but i dont have "posters". as with all my maps i suppose i concentrate on other forms of details the posters area good idea tho.....quality control and shit :) @Zacker: long live func_detail @thirdeye: yes now its 10 times easier to add detail that doesnt affect much, diplacements are the same way(the curvy floors and such in cathedral) which are strangely not really rendered like a floor would be. im getting quite fast with the new engine stuff. id even venture to say im just as fast with source now as i was in 1.6 :) this industry map you see here was a 5 day project until those screens were taken. |
