5.1 headphones sound a bit silly to me... i mean, I can't imagine headphones were meant to have more than two speakers...

And besides, those two speakers usually do a nice job creating 3d sound... but i guess it can always be better, although I'd recommend you try a real 5.1 setup instead. Or just normal headphones maybe... I'm sure you'll get better sound for the price.

I dont know neither what's the point on those headphones. ok, with that normal 5.1 that's ok, but you have only 2 ears, therefore there isnt the need for more than 2 speakers. and of course not for a base box like the .1 suggests :D

a 5.1 surround set , DOES give you a more 'surround' feeling. But a headphones is just insane. It can't possibly really make a difference! (use math if you like asp! ;))

yeah i have to agree with aspirin & stefan.
5.1 heaphones are a bit of waste of money when a full 5.1 speaker setup probably cost`s about the same price.

I need the 5.1 headphones since when most of my gaming goes on past midnight ( my parents are well asleep by then) and i don't wanna piss anyone off with the 5.1 setup blasting into the night.

I wouldnt compare those both. they are for different purposes and in my opinion it's really cheaper to buy really good sennheiser headphones for example ( for let's say only 250€ ) instead of really good speakers + some satellites if needed for 5.1 for >1000€, to get the same quality. but some ppl just dont like to wear headphones, or they only hear that stuff not alone

I went ahead and got some LTB-USB-M 5.1 headphones from tigerdirect, and i must say the sound is pretty impressive. The surround sound effect is definitely there. But now i'm a little confused as to which audio setting i'm supposed to use when playing games. For some games, like doom 3, the only one to choose from is surround sound. But games like medal of honor pacific assault let me choose from headphones, surround sound, and 5.1 from the audio settings. Which one would 5.1 headphones fall under?
