Problems downloading POD-Bot mm
Hi everyone. I'm new to the forums, and I can't seem to be able to download POD-Bot mm from the filebase. Each time I click to download it, it'll bring me to a page with the terms. Once I've read them and clicked "I Agree" it just brings me back to the index showing me all the available downloads.
Is there something I must do before I can get the bots? Thanks in advance. All help is much appreciated :) |
Re: Problems downloading POD-Bot mm
Try again ? :)
I bet someone was working on the filebase at this moment. Onno wanted to synchronize the login cookies. I don't know whether he's done or not. |
Re: Problems downloading POD-Bot mm
Ahhh, it works!! Haha, thanks for the prompt reply Pierre-Marie Baty :)
By the way...this is a bit embarrassing, but which file should I be downloading? The Release #2 build 1 right? Oh and another newbie question I hope you don't mind answering? Does this bot interfere with me being able to play on Steam servers? Is there any extra stuff I must do? Or do I just extract into the cstrike folder et voila, it's done? Haha, thanks again... |
Re: Problems downloading POD-Bot mm
First of all, you must have MetaMod installed on your PC because PODBot is now a MetaMod plugin. If you need help with MetaMod, check the Common Questions forum first - there's a sticky thread about installing MetaMod right on top.
Then you need the last official release - release 2 build 1, as you guessed correctly. This release contains all files you need for PODBot. Finally, you can download the latest build (R2B43) and replace your podbot.dll with it. afaik, the filebase still calls it a "Beta", but in fact it works better than the old official release...;) And no, PODBot won't cause any problems with Steam. You will still be able to...
Well, good luck with the installation... let us know if it worked or if there are any difficulties we can help you to master! |
Re: Problems downloading POD-Bot mm
Wow, the support on Bots-United is great! Hehe...thanks a lot for all your tips.
I've been trying to download metamod after reading the podbot "readme" file. But the link on www.metamod.org and also the adminmod on www.adminmod.org all lead to links that can't be downloaded. I'm not sure what's wrong...but probably they exceeded their bandwith? Anyway, I'll try again tomorrow. That's the only thing holding me back from trying out Pod-Bot mm :) EDIT: Oh, by the way, there seems to be a slight hiccup when downloading waypoints from the filebase? It says "You are not authorized to view this page" when I click on the "Download File". Is it just me? :( |
Re: Problems downloading POD-Bot mm
Now that's odd... ???:( I just went to metamod.org and tried... for me, download links worked fine (and I don't even use Internet Explorer, but Firefox). This link here...
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/m...n.zip?download leads to an entire list of mirrors, and I just randomly picked one - it worked perfectly. Could something with your browser be wrong? Do you have "automatic redirect" disabled? Are you using a firewall which might have too restrictive settings? Anyway, if you can't download there, you can try the MetaMod version from Pierre-Marie Baty's site: http://racc.bots-united.com/releases/metamod-1.17sp.zip I'm using this version myself, so I can attest that it works well with PODbot. :) As for the filebase bug: Yes, I just checked, and I got a "forbidden" error, too. Seems like the filebase isn't back to full functionality yet after the new server setup... but I bet these little "hiccups" wil be fixed shortly. ;) |
Re: Problems downloading POD-Bot mm
Yaiks, I just finished doing everything. Made the plugins.ini, addons folder, metamod folder, replaced the podbot dll..etc etc...
When I start the game, I can see bots being added automatically. Then suddenly an error appears that says Visibility Tables out of date (Rebuilding 0%). Then after that the whole game just shuts down... Is there something else I need to do? :( I was so looking forward to getting some kills before bed...haha, looks like that won't happen now :( Oh and how do I set the auto addbot to "off"? I might not want it sometimes... Thanks thanks very very much much! :) EDIT: Very sorry to keep posting and editing. But I found out that it was only on a particular map (Soulfather's awp_map waypoints). Hehe... |

Re: Problems downloading POD-Bot mm
@ Huntakillaz: Right. That's where I wanted to point our new lad. But when I went to your site, it said the traffic limit had been exceeded... that's why I didn't write anything about it.
@ glabb: You can prevent bots from joining automatically by removing a few lines from the file "podbot.cfg" (should be in cstrike\addons\podbot\). Just open it with Notepad (or whatever text file editor you may use) and search for lines that say "addbot". You ought to find a little paragraph that explains a bit about this addbot feature, and right below there should be some "addbot" lines. If you remove them or comment them out (by changing them from "addbot" to "#addbot"), no bot will join automatically. To make 100% sure bots don't join automatically, find the parameter "min_bots", and if the number behind is higher than zero (e.g. min_bots 4"), change it to zero ("min_bots 0"). The other "error" is actually not an error. PODBot 2.5 used to calculate the visibility table for a map every time you started a game on that map. PODBot 2.6mm calculates the visibility table once, saves it as soon as you change to another mao, and the next time you play, it just loads the previously saved visibility table from a file. This means that PB 2.6mm will create visibility tables once for every map. Unless you change the waypoint files, the visibility table will never be calculated again. While calculation of the visibility table is in progress, you will see the HUD message you saw, and you will notice that the game runs kinda choppy. After some seconds (the bigger the waypoint file, the longer it takes), the game will behave normally again. The next time you play that map, you won't notice any lag at all, because the visibility table can be quickly loaded from the file that was created the last time. You can change to your waypoint folder and see the visibility tables. They are called like the map they belong to, and their extension is "pvi". The visibility table for de_dust, for example, would be called "de_dust.pvi". As for the crash you get on awp_map, I can't come up with anything smart spontaneously, sorry... :( |

Re: Problems downloading POD-Bot mm
@Huntkillaz: Hey :) I actually saw the link to your website as well. Just that when I clicked on the link it said "Page could not be displayed" hehe...I'll try it again today.
@T Wrecks: Hmn, I just read your nickname over, and realised that it pronounces as T-Rex. Hahaha, I'm a bit slow :D Well anyway, thanks for the help with removing the command for auto addbot. As for the visibility tables, all's working well now. Except for awp_map. I'm going to try to get some other waypoint files from another website and see how that goes. Otherwise everything's running smoothly. Now I can practice my CS without embarrassing myself on Steam :D Thanks everyone!! |
Re: Problems downloading POD-Bot mm
Okay, I hope this is the last question I have to bother you with.
I've seen some servers on Steam have a ranking system. Is it possible to do this with the bots as well? Thanks in advance :) |
Re: Problems downloading POD-Bot mm
Haha, first of all, you're not bothering us.:) That's what we're here for, and in contrast to some guys who really nag the living sh*t out of people, you have quite a pleasant way of asking stuff, believe me...
With "ranking system" I suppose you mean a kind of list, so that you can see for example: "You are #191 of 245 on this server" ? Is it more or less something like that? I suppose it's some kind of plugin (quite possibly an AMX plugin) that does this. Since AMX can be "plugged" into MetaMod, i guess you could do the same on your home 'puter - IF it is such a plugin. Do you have the possibility to ask the server admin or other "regulars" on that server? Maybe they can tell you what it is. However, I see a potential problem if the plugin is not programmed with bots in mind. I am really an ignoramus when it comes to coding and programming, but I think that bots and human players are detected in different ways, so it could happen that the plugin has problems detecting and ranking bots. Someone here once reported a problem with a plugin called PsychoStats (as the name suggest, a kind of stats/ranking plugin), but that was many, many dll builds ago... If I were you, I would try to search both the metamod and amx sites for ranking plugins and/or ask the server folks what they use, d/l and just try it out... if you run into problems, you know where to ask, eh? ;) |
Re: Problems downloading POD-Bot mm
AMX , AMX MOD X and StatsMe shouldn't have the problem with rank bots the same like human-players. But when You will use AMX with bots You can experience some side-effects like impossible get admin rights for aMX or something, because AMX is geting confused after joining player instead bot. This is known problem and already is solved in AMX MOD X 0.20 , but there isn't yet an official release of AMX with this fix (should be in AMX 0.9.10). StatsMe 2.8.0 beta 7 (the best for old CS1.5) doesn't have the problem with rank bots - the same 2.8.2 (for Steam CS1.6). For both of them You need to use this line in statsme.cfg (this one in statsme folder) :
// Allow for logging bots to top10 sm_rankbots 1 I don't know if the latest version of statsme supports bots without problems and lets them go to rank in the same way - I didn't try it. |
Re: Problems downloading POD-Bot mm
Hey again :)
@T Wrecks: Yep, that was the ranking system I was referring to. I checked out one of the online servers and found that they were using AMX. I'll try downloading that to "plug" into my metamod. Hopefully it'll work. Will update my progress once I've tried it :D @KWo: Thanks a bunch for the AMX guide. Although I still don't really understand it haha. I'll go read a readme... General Question: Do these MODs, for example AdminMod, MetaMod and AMX Mod allow me to run my own private server so that my friends can join through IP? I don't think they have a retail version of CS, so that's the only way they'll get to play. EDIT: Oh, and I checked out PsychoStats...but the site said that it hadn't been released yet (the newest version or something). So I'll just wait for that. Besides, I have exams in a week, and I really shouldn't be spending so much time on Counter-Strike :D |
Re: Problems downloading POD-Bot mm
Sure, metamod, AdminMod, AMX and the likes can be run as well on a dedicated internet server as on a LAN server. They can even be run locally, on a singleplayer Half-Life game.
No respectable server out here, be it LAN or not, would dare to run without one of these mods these days :) |
Re: Problems downloading POD-Bot mm
Hehe, you're right. Mods change the experience all together :D
On another note, I installed AMX Mod, I forgot which version, but it's probably the latest (or at least I hope it is)...and I got the stats to work somewhat to record kills and deaths for bots. But it records all bots as only one player!! Haha...It was really weird. If one bot killed another, the stats would read as Kills: 1, Deaths: 1. So I don't really see the point in having stats for bots, unfortunately. It records my personal stats correctly though. Hehe, anyone know a way to overcome this? I'll post back shortly if I have any more progress...;) |
Re: Problems downloading POD-Bot mm
This is not AMX forum forum, so maybe I shouldn't answer here to this question, but I'll redirect You somewhere. About this what You didn't understand - You can read more here (it isn't in any readme, just some experience :) ):
http://djeyl.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=35992&hl= About rank problem try use this: http://djeyl.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=37998 The people noticed this problem many times, but I couldn't find this for You at AMX forum currently. If I'll find some more info, I'll re-edit my post. [EDIT] Here is the second link I found to this topic with one player only on the top10 (or top15) list: http://djeyl.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=37392&hl= Dunno why the people answered me nothing there - so I don't know if this my tip solved their problem or not. :( Maybe even You let me know if this help You or not. [/EDIT] [EDIT2] Next time try to don't go offtopic so much in the thread, OK? ;) [/EDIT2] |
