52Hour contest

I took part in a speed mapping contest here in Germany. The 52Hour Mappack contest.

They release a topic......give you the textures. models, all the other stuff..and you have 52 hours to make a fullscale mission oriented map.

i didnt do it last time.......but this time i decided it would be good to try :)

did anyone else take part in that? Carp? im sure the 52Hour contest is known by many...last topic was spain remember those maps?

anyway its over and they are soon letting the maps play and will release them on thier forums.....00clan.de will have the maps listed one per thread....go vote, you might just vote for mine!

to stay fair i cant release my mapname.

Re: 52Hour contest

You participated? How cool! Man, the topic was really interesting, to say the least: A pony farm! LOLZ! I bet the result will be 90% shitty maps (because it's more difficult to do than an abstract setting like dust/aztec or that usual abandoned factory), but also some really great and original ones. Hm, gotta see if and when they're finished...
Well, I wish you good luck, and I'll certainly vote! If it will be for your map, we shall see... ;)
Anyway, the last time, de_52leon won, and design-wise it was certainly a highlight. But I think I even enjoyed playing de_52andalusia a bit more...

I guess http://www.clan00.de

not very 56k friendly, therefore no direct link and just a guess :D

Re: 52Hour contest

Yeah, they have posted on their HP that they are currently checking and reviewing the maps. Shortly, they will open up a new sub-forum where they will present the maps...

Re: 52Hour contest

Huh? Wtf can't I edit? :'(

Um, anyway: Maps can be downloaded now... I alredy did so and had a quick look at them. So far, the most promising-looking ones IMHO are:
as_52ponyscheisse ( the title... :D )
cs_52fieldday
cs_52ponyexpress (GREAT looks!)
de_52grain
de_52pwny.
Just a spontaneous impression, though. Maybe one of the uglier-looking maps will turn out to play better, who knows?

Re: 52Hour contest

I've never seen a 52 hr contest, although I've just recently heard about the first one.
So ... nope ... I wasn't a participant.

I've been working a lot & playing Doom 3, when I'm not at work.
It's a really, frickin' good game.
My favourite 1st person shooter yet, I think.

Still working on a TS map from time to time.
I've recently moved & had put it aside for a long time.
I plan on releasing it soon, prior to HL 2, in mid-November.
That's the plan, anyways.

Cheers !

Re: 52Hour contest

which one of those 5 do you think is mine T Wrecks?

>BKA< T Wrecks 11-09-2004 23:50

Re: 52Hour contest

HA! So yours is one of the five, eh? ;) Thought so... still, I have only looked at them all one single timne, prolly 3-5 minutes each. Gotta install de_bitterwine and cs_brainwash_f again, check them and see if I recognize some typical elements of your style in one of the five... there are so many small elements that can betray a mapper, but you gotta know several maps by the same mapper to see them. Like Atomfried and his fondness of bridges, for example (cs_attack and cs_snowbase are actually SO similar...) Gimme some time, but I will place a guess. One thing I'm guessing right now is that ponyscheisse is not your map because the title is too plump & direct and you never used a German title AFAIK...
/starts installing maps...:D

I couldn't find a single picture of any contest map on the site.

Not a one. >:(

Re: 52Hour contest

@ Carp:

Try this URL:
http://www.clan00.de/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=47

It should bring you to the pimpage forum where each map is presented in a separate thread by means of several screenies plus a download link. The source pack (i.e. the models/sprites/textures) can also be d/l'ed from there.

@ SoUlFaThEr:

This is difficult... there is not one map where I said "oh of course, this has got to be it for sure". However, in cs_52fieldday I found one very particular element I only know from cs_brainwash_f plus another one that's less particular but at least appears in brainswash_f as well. I'm not really deeply convinced of anything, but if someone held a pistol to my head and forced me to choose, I would say it's cs_52fieldday. :|

Re: 52Hour contest

correct :)

Re: 52Hour contest

w00tage, I got it! =)

Now YOU guess what led me to believe that it was cs_52fieldday... ;)

Btw, the map looks really nice and most of all well-playable. It's small, but not too small, easy to learn and ought to be fun. Gonna make waypoints for it to test gameplay, hehe...

actually i have no clue at all

Ok... here, I have taken some screenies and added comments to show what gave you away. There's one more element I forgot to take photoes of: Open doors as solid brushes to show which door you can use and which one you can't. You did it in brainwash_f (those cells where the hostages were), you did it in fieldday. The rest is in the attached pics.
Btw, I finished the waypoint file for this map yesterday and playtested a bit today - it's really fun to play! Fast & furious, you could say... ;) If this map doesn't make it into one of the best 5 ranks (not only in my personal "chart", but also in the clan00 contest, then I don't know...

Re: 52Hour contest

you are pretty damn observant!!! I am really impressed!

>BKA< T Wrecks 17-09-2004 00:21

Re: 52Hour contest

Gee... thanks. :o

But after all, there were only 5 maps to choose from. If you hadn't told me that you mapped one of the five I mentioned, I would never have guessed that one was made by you. And out of those 5, some could be "eliminated" because they had some stuff in them which you'd never use (judging from those maps by you that I know). For example, huge and flashy glow sprites under almost all lamps or tiny, narrow doors that can be opened, whereas absolutely identical-looking doors are just textures applied to solid brushes, so that you can never be sure where you can go and where you can't...

Re: 52Hour contest

i lost anyway.....there were quite a few maps there that were very obviously not made for this contest, but rather...retextured industrial scenery...and some of those made the top ten.

i right now have no clue what they were looking for.

Re: 52Hour contest

Me neither... I noticed your map wasn't even in the top 10, but I really didn't understand their policy, either. You probably should have made a de-map, like everybody today does. In the top 10, there was one as, one cs, and 8 de. It's really a pity... good cs maps are SO hard to find nowadays.

It doesn't help you for the contest, but your map still is in MY top five, no matter what the [00] guys decided. ;)
