Where is everybody (IRC)

I am in the irc channel, i am using TurboIRC and it works great. No more java aplet :D I'll try to be there as long as possible, but i want to stress out that there need to be people in there, else its of no use! :S

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

I#ve unfortunately only a dial up connection, but I'll try to be there when I'm online :)

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

ive havent used irc actively since like 6 years back..
i guess im not too chatty..

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

I'd go there eventually but I'm not fond of IRC clients that clutter my taskbar. Can you guys recommend me a good -TINY- IRC client that would sit in the systray and not in the windows taskbar ?

I reckon I'm less there these days, since I'm late as hell in my work and I have not much time for real time talks... :( but ASAP, yes, I'll be idling around again as usuals.

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

TURBO IRC client can sit in the traybar.. its 1.3 MB, you can find it at http://filebase.bots-united.com/pafi...on=file&id=154

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

i go on irc from time to time...
I see people that go on but only for a second..
they say hi then leave...
probably because I didn't respond because I didn't check the IRC window :D

stefanhendriks 09-06-2004 09:24

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

well i try to be there as much as i can.

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

im not there because im always with most friends in the quakenet server........so having 2 mircs open for each server kinda blows.......also i use a little program called Miranda.
it does not have all the "extra" functions of trillian but the file is only 700kb.very small and compact programming...i think its even somewhere on sourceforge.
it does irc msn jabber and icq.....and finds all your contacts for you :)

sPlOrYgOn 09-06-2004 15:34

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

you can connect to more than one server SF
just check the open new window when choosing a server to connect to.

SoUlFaThEr 09-06-2004 15:52

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

never works....when i change server.......the whole thing goes with it

Pierre-Marie Baty 09-06-2004 16:51

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

Miranda ?
gotta google that one, thanks SF :)

stefanhendriks 09-06-2004 17:27

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

i am on several irc channels a t atime using one program... i don't have any problems with connecting at all.

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

IRC? what's that?

Computer servuces here have completly disabled and 'fun' network things. I can play games, use MSN, ICQ Yahooo and various java-based chat applets, but no IRC. No Kazaa, no bittorrents etc etc etc etc.

Pierre-Marie Baty 11-06-2004 06:30

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

IRC ?
it's the oldest chat protocol that has ever been used on the internet !
Not knowing IRC is like, say, not knowing FTP :D (no offense meant btw)

I would be VERY surprised that you couldn't do IRC whereas you could do MSN, ICQ or Yahoo chat from the same machine. What you see probably is just the Java applet doesn't work. But you could still use IRC using a normal (non-java) client such as mIRC or the ones we've been talking about here...

Brainz 11-06-2004 21:06

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

I was being sarcastic. and it's mIRC I tried. And Chatzilla. Neither work.

stefanhendriks 11-06-2004 21:45

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

try this Miranda IM thing, its pretty good! :) (thumbs up PM)

Pierre-Marie Baty 11-06-2004 23:13

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

oh and BTW the Bots United IRC server is NOT on the default IRC port 6667. That's because the hosting company's router filters out that port. The IRC server had to be put on port 6668, so watch out the config :)

irc.bots-united.com:6668

*edit* thumbs up to SoUlFaThEr instead... it's him who told me about Miranda :D

I use mirc for my irc client and if you check the options there is a section that allows you to show mirc in only the systray even when the window is open

TRILLIAN ownz anytime (ok, wait till pmb see's this and flames me :) )

Pierre-Marie Baty 17-07-2004 15:11

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

Trillian == bloated

Miranda == pwnage
10 times smaller, and it supports much more protocols. :)

Not a flame, a nag. :)

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

What about making an official Bots-united IRC channel on some network?

Dunno what the exact benefits would be, cause i couldn't imagine a newbie just randomly joining #bots-united to ask a question, if the person hadn't heard of that name before, and honestly, this is community is a bit hidden... took me some time of searching before i found this page ;)

but anyway, it would give people an oppertunity to small-talk without using the fora...

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

theres already a server with the B-U channel... irc://irc.bots-united.com:6668/#bots-united

Not to be thwarted I had a conversation with myself.

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

lol, i pop into IRC from time to time, but unfortunantly, i have my own IRC Network to run, 3000 pesky users getting up my nose can be a hassle lol - Your welcome to use it if you need it, 9 servers, custom services with web interface, SSL connections avaliable to all server, some useful stuff there, and of course, a friendly administrative team ;) *plug* lol

As for miranda, i had a friend who used that once, he said it was ok, he eventually switched to trillian though, has much more potential since trillian 3 is in alpha (although it now weighs in at a whopping 9mb, when the optimised binaries come out, i'm sure it will be smaller), I'm a trillian fan myself, dont use it for IRC though, i use mIRC for that :)

Huntkillaz 04-12-2004 01:41

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

i'm a fan of trillian too

i actualy started the use of trillian at our uni

i started using it then some of my friends evntually most of the university does now :D

Brainz 04-12-2004 05:23

Re: Where is everybody (IRC)

well, I use trillian as a way round the uni's 'no installing software' rule. They've implemented it by blocking write access to the registry, but since you can install trillian without accessing the registry... They've completly blocked up IRC tho :(
