Cvs

As some already know i am finding the best way to give my source away, but also to be able to work with multiple people on it. (Probably i will try this first, and later on i can always release the source, but i want it to be productive)

I have downloaded CVS and of course as a spoiled windows user i expected a nice UI. But probably i downloaded the wrong one? Or... it is really that blank and just exits at start.

After that i began reading the readme's (as all users ;) do in general ). Anyway, we need a CVS server in order to get this running.

Since we also have a POD source , JOE source (does use CVS already?) and later on perhaps a RACC source (not to mention very later on, we probably need a CVS thing for the United Bot) i suggest we get our own CVS server on.

If you are going to reply with "OMG WE ALREADY HAVE ONE" , then plz do not try to make fun of me ;) :D

Anyway, once things are up, i can experiment with this. But i truly want it with a GUI because text boxes suck hard in Windows.

OMG we already have one ! ATOMROFL !

Just kidding stefan, didnt mean to mak fun of you. but we do alrady have one running on this server ...

If you want a nice, graphical interface for cvs, download TortoiseCVS. Its a graphical UI for CVS.

If you want to connect to the cvs, well have to set some things up first.
Oh well, tell me waht u want :)

BTW, if you want to test, checkout the module ST151 from the cvs repository, thats my stupid university bullshit.

Wait Nova, we already have one ?

Since when ?

I didn't even know it :)

What do I need to be set up to use that thing ?

Re: Cvs

Lol, pmb did not know about it. A relief to me :D

anyway, if you could set up a RealBot 'project' and such, and provide me with the info i should use to login and work on it. I am able to test it.

I am going to look for a GUI CVS system later, i already saw some.

I could help with the original cvs but this is the first time I heard about CVSNT.

Just for curiosity, the CVSNT page has a wiki too: http://www.cvsnt.org/wiki/ :D

Its not that much different from normal cvs.

But for some strange ass reason my inetd setup is not working (original cvs iwhtout ssl did)

this is my line in inetd.conf:
cvspserver stream tcp nowait cvs /usr/sbin/tcpd /usr/local/bin/cvs cvs pserver

Pierre-Marie Baty 17-04-2004 12:40

Re: Cvs

Is there a way to load the daemon outside of inetd perhaps ?

Onno Kreuzinger 17-04-2004 12:51

Re: Cvs

yeah i will do it as xinetd type of service

Terran 17-04-2004 20:21

Re: Cvs

Maybe you need to add the allowed CVS root to the command line, at least that was one of the problems I had:

cvspserver stream tcp nowait cvs /usr/sbin/tcpd /usr/local/bin/cvs --allow-root=/var/cvs/cvsroot pserver

I assume you checked that the cvs server is running and answering CVS requests...

Onno Kreuzinger 17-04-2004 20:44

Re: Cvs

well yes, it allways works localy, atleast almost allways, it just fails if used via ssh or ssl (cvsnt).

Re: Cvs

fyi, both Aspirin and i cannot login. I tried my username and also anonymous but both get the this:

Quote:

CVSROOT=:sserver:stefan@bots-united.com:/home/cvsroot/filebase

cvs checkout: Empty password used - try 'cvs login' with a real password

cvs [checkout aborted]: /home/cvsroot/filebase: no such repository
