The use of HAL in RACC
I noticed on the website, there was a mention that you were going to introduce HAL into RACC, i took a look at the MegaHAL website, and started wondering your motives for this, especially after reading http://megahal.sourceforge.net/Best.html
From what i see, the bots will spend most of the time talking gibberish, and if it were in-game, i cant see the bots following out what they say :p as i say, i am interested in the motives and implications when it comes to using this :) |
Re: The use of HAL in RACC
Mostly for dead chat. When bots are dead or idle chit-chatting, no cognitive stuff is involved as the chat intrinsically isn't supposed to carry even the slightest part of information.
I have nonetheless recently found out that you can bend MegaHAL to generate pseudo-cognitive sentences if you supply the subject, verb and complement as keywords. This makes me think I could eventually try to extend the usage of MegaHAL to in-game tactics. But it's way ahead from me yet. |
Re: The use of HAL in RACC
Heyyo,
Wow, tha'd be awesome PM! I'd like to see that. :) PM, have you played Soldier of Fortune 2? when you get aid from the other soldiers later, they'll slowly advance, look around corners n' stuff all stealthy, and signal to eachother for when to advance. I've never seen any squad tactics like that for bots in CS, yours would be the 1st if it did PM. But I'm just thinking out loud, but yeah, I'd be a shibby idea to do someday. :) |
Re: The use of HAL in RACC
nice, you concidered going 1 step further and getting bots to use some sorta Speach -> Text engine, so when someone using in game voice chat and says 'follow me' the bots do it? :p

Re: The use of HAL in RACC
Heyyo,
Hmm, for that, you'd need to get the bots to know how words sound, and tha'd be hard. Just use the premade radio commands, they work fine. :P |
Re: The use of HAL in RACC
sorry, sarcasm cant be conveyed too well over BBs :(
I'd be interested to see where this 'HAL' thing goes thou :) |
Re: The use of HAL in RACC
Heyyo,
Lol, god, this is unrelated, but if you highlite a smiley face, it looks angry. :) |
Re: The use of HAL in RACC
Heyyo,
Lol, god, this is completely unrelated too but after investigating behind your signature I just got the Tenacious D album and I think it's pretty good sound! :D Long live the D! |

Re: The use of HAL in RACC
Heyyo,
Lol! AWESOME PM!!! :D LONG LIVE THE D MAN!!! :) I know this is a little offtopic, but a great movie Jack Black stars in (he's the lead singer of Tenacious D, he's done a lot of movies) it's called, "Envy." He acts along side Ben Stiller, and it's a comedy, so it's gonna be saweet!!! 8o OH! and dude, if you love the cd, you gotta check out their DVD: Tenacious D Masterworks DVD. It's great, it has their Tenacious D show episodes (sucks how the show got cancelled after only 6 episodes... I think it's because of the Sophranoes too) and a live concert in England, and the music videos, and some short films (lol, hella messed up, but really funny. They probably wrote them when they were high. :D ) and some hidden specials. On the 2nd dvd, just hit the left or right arrows to go onto the 2 cactuces or the cow skull, and hit the enter button. :) |
Re: The use of HAL in RACC
I've implemented megaHAL via PM's megaHAL source on my RcBot if you want to see what it's like (not forcing you to download my bot or anything ;)) of course you need a mod it can work with :D
ps, PM: your racc chat testing file still doesn't exist! :p (http://racc.bots-united.com/releases/racc-hal.exe) |
Re: The use of HAL in RACC
Heyyo,
Cool, I've used RCbot, it's a cool bot btw, they do a good job as marines. :) Lol, before I remember I tried to mod the botmixer 5000 so I could use Whichbot, and RCbot together.. that never worked out. :P Wow, diddn't know it worked for svencoop, gonna have to try that, and chat to the bots, and call them bad names, lol.... |
