The 'ß' is a double 's'. It literally means shit ;)

Har. You know, I'm surprised shithead isn't used that much in german -it sounds much better than in english. On the topic of love? No. Not german. Porn movies perhaps, niceties, no. It just sounds so wrong.

French? It sounds like you're trying to spit things out, unless you have throat cancer and don't produce much saliva.

People used to tell me dutch included too much hacking, but I find that is only true for some people. It sounds very english to me.

Can't be bothered with many capitals today it seems.

I see what you mean. You've obviously listened to the wrong ones. This is a typical accent from the suburbs. The more it sounds like you're spitting, the bigger your dick's supposed to be. Those talking french like that are idiots.

Heyyo,

Heh... explains the excessive saliva falling out of the corner of my mouth when I talk to chicks and I'm thinking in french... yes. :|

Hehehe. I know what you mean PMB, I'm picking on that bad bits. Heh, another of my "french" peeves is the snappy ones. They remind me of the spanish too much. There is one like this in my Jitsu club, her boyfriend is always on tenterhooks concerning her.

Noone can deny however that german is the language of porn.

I think it's the best compromise between german and english. although more english as german words but more german like grammar. And with a hint of french hacked words. Only dutch grammar should be more like english.
Because now my writing sucks. English words using dutch grammar. :D

all languages suck. there should be an international language. i'd call it basic, but microsoft fucked that one up for all future uses :D

TruB 18-08-2005 18:25

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

hehe.. yeah.. i vote for an international language.. and i wouldnt mind it being english..

an international language do exist.. but no one uses it..

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

well, esperanto is an obvious choice, and contrary popular belive a lot of people actually speak esperanto. Exactly how many is very difficult to say, but more than a million, that's for sure...

Haven't learned it yet though... but it's on my to-do list ;)

I've always found dutch to be like german, with extra throat sounds added. Btw, I love german. Haven't really had a use for it in 3 years now, but i keep on speaking it just for the fun of it anyway... not that I'm good at it... it just has a nice 'sound' to it :D

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

We should all speak Latin. Actually it seems English might be the best choice considering how many people speak it now. However, I think that Spanish would be a good choice. Spanish is taught in schools around here. In my old high school, you could choose either Spanish, German, or French. I think they may have more now. I don't know for sure but they might have Russian.

Leagle 19-08-2005 00:38

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

Good god no, I'd prefer to learn ...I'll get back to you there.

And a million isn't very much, you know. They speak it badly too. ;) I know of one person I've met who can speak it, of the rest I believe I am the only one who has seriously looked at one of those online courses in it. It'll never catch on in the modern world.

It is very like ye olde english, (which, is a germanic language, not a latin one. I have little time when people tell me how like english french is -it bloody well isn't!) Who can tell me what "ye" means? (And how it is pronounced!)

sfx1999 19-08-2005 01:49

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

Ye means you. Pronouced yee. Why is that supposed to be hard?

Now thou is confusing. I looked it up. I can't really tell when you are supposed to use it.

Leagle 19-08-2005 02:38

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

Incorrect. "You old english?", reffering to the language? ha!

No.

Exilibur 19-08-2005 09:31

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

Ye can be used as 'you' in plural, where as thou is singular you (ie only speaking to one person). Dunno about 'Ye' when it's in front of nouns...

Actually the words are grammatically altered kinda like german in old english... thou willst for example, with that extra st in the end... that's kinda kuul.

sPlOrYgOn 19-08-2005 11:10

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

I believe ye means "your"
I had a list of all this old english stuff somewhere...

Cpl. Shrike 19-08-2005 13:22

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

Ye is more to be The.
like "De" in dutch and "Der" in german.

Ye, De.

Probably pronounced as thE

TruB 19-08-2005 14:45

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

can you just stop with the talk about Ye.. and old english..

we need to make a big decision here.. what language will be the universal language?

or maybe we should have europe start talking english since most alread can it.. except france.. but we make them have it in school.. and all other contries.. in 50 years english will be the first or second language in europe.. for all.. except granny and grandpa in france.. :p

then.. comes the big move.. everybody moves over to english.. and it will be the only spoken language..
by now.. a basic chineese is being teached in school. which is the only language talked in asia by now.. and they are teaching enlish.. in about 50 years.. a new decision is being made.. will the new languag be english or chineese??

Correct.

And I don't think it will be chinese, mandarin or cantonese. The languages dominate a block, everybody else is too far from, and too established to ever accept any chinese as "the" language. If it isn't english, it will always be multipolar.

TruB 19-08-2005 17:00

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

true.. but its the no the most spoken language around where i live.. i know 2 who can speak it.. not enough to make me learn it.. somehow i think english is more dynamic..

sfx1999 19-08-2005 17:26

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

It's not that I don't want to learn Chinese (I actually do), but people would have to much trouble with it. It is tonal, one word can mean multiple things depending on the tone it is said in.

Then again, in English it depends on the rest of the sentence.

Pierre-Marie Baty 21-08-2005 16:10

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

I don't know if English will be the international language or not, but it definitely is for me one of, if not THE simplest of all (not that I speak it without mistake, though :|)

HangFire 23-08-2005 00:21

Re: Happy B-Day Onno

Everybody, especially native english speakers, speak it improperly due to bad habits picked up and local slang.

As long as people get what you mean without having to re-read or repeat it, then theres no reason for any complaint.
