Re: Work on Wesite?

my vote is to have a setup email account where ratings are sent when they form is filled out then once a week we will update the site with them

Re: Work on Wesite?

Heyyo,

Yes, that's pretty much what I had in mind, cause that's how CSNation does it with their skin of the day section, and since we all need access to them, a main e-mail account is definately the easiest way to set things up.

Re: Work on Wesite?

i vote we just use a gmail account... great orginazation, anyone can access it and we are good to go

Heyyo,

Sounds good, how big are those inboxes? I'm sure it won't matter too much cause we'll be only getting waypoints at a max of 1MB, but just wonderin'..

ok i will setup a gmail account

does botsunited@gmail.com sound ok?

Re: Work on Wesite?

Sounds somewhat "complete BU"-ish to me. Maybe "BU-waypoints [at] gmail.com?" Something like that, which makes it clear that it's not an address that applies to all kind of BU-related stuff, only to the waypoint-site.

We might also choose a site name that can be abbreviated, just like Counter-Server Maps (CSM). Bots-United Waypoints? BUWP? Or WPBU? The account could then be named accordingly, like "BUWP [at] gmail.com"?

Or could we get a BU mail account so that the mail addy could be "waypoints [at] bots-united.com"?

Questions, questions... :D

well we can have more than one account lol but we don't need one.... and i am still confused on who is providing the space? is anyone? or do we have to get our own?

Re: Work on Wesite?

Heyyo,

We're getting some webspace here at BU (I'm sure if we asked we could, do we need to start a poll or just ask the forum countcil members?)

as for e-mail? I think it'll be easier to get a gmail account so they won't have to setup one for us. ;)

Re: Work on Wesite?

the email for bots untied waypoint site will be wpbotsunited[AT]gmail.com

Re: Work on Wesite?

MarD as soon as we add a new host to Bots United a script automatically creates the subdomain, reserves HDD space, creates the home directory, enables shell login, creates his email account and an alias, and creates a CVS user. So you see, that's not something I would worry about ;)

Heyyo,

Ooohh, automated, nice. :)

So err.. we gonna use the one we will probably get provided by BU, or are we gonna use that gmail one? I'm leaning towards BU cause I'm not too sure aboot gmail cause they might have advertisements/spyware. Remember, havn't used gmail, I'm not too sure how clean it is, is all I'm sayin'.

no nothing like that man... here read this http://gmail.google.com/gmail/help/about.html#ads
it explains it...

Re: Work on Wesite?

Heyyo,

Oh ok, then gmail ain't bad at all cause the ads on google are pretty minimal. If we do use gmail then I'd be able to live with those ads cause google's the only searchengine I use. :D

Re: Work on Wesite?

bleh I see why now...
you're making it hard for yourself..
if I were you I'd cut the image up and put the text in a big table with the cut up images as background...
what you're doing right now will be very hard to maintain if the menu keeps changing...
for some reason I get the feeling you're using dreamweaver...

well i kinda am using dw but i am write the code by hand.... and the only reason i have the menu like that was to add that text in there it won't be like that later

Heyyo,

Heh, nice Bio, looks better each time. ;)

The template seems sharper than the last one, so that's cool too. :)

For the waypoint table, you forgot to put in the revision part. ;)

Re: Work on Wesite?

Heyyo,

Yeah, it's still WIP, so we better catch all the errors now before throwing it out there for the masses. And from what I see, we ain't far from it. ;)

I'd be great if we can get this up before the official CS:S bot, so once it's up, we can get some high quality nav packs out for it too, that'll boost the site's popularity 10 fold inna matter of days. I'm sure at the rate the official CS:S bot's taking, we'll have a time advantage. :P

[EDIT]
I've seen how the official CSbot nav's, and dead_buoy's console commands, so I'm sure I could pump out a few good nav files too. ;)

yes well there isn't much more i can actaully do because i don't have anything to work with... i mean i can setup the layout which reminds me i need a list of all the bots we are making waypoints for... and can you catagorize them so you would have
  • Podbot MM
    • EPODBOT
    • IVbot
    • other bots that use the same waypoints as podbot
  • NAV Files
  • etc
and also i need someone to make a logo for the top part... it would be nice to have a contest.. .see who can make the best one... i'll have some guys here try to come up with something other than that we should be getting close to done with it... altho i haven't tryed to make a searcher or anything mainly because there is nothing to search for and i don't really know how to make one yet, and i am lazy :P

MarD 25-11-2004 06:33

Re: Work on Wesite?

Heyyo,

Yeah, that setup's nice, but remember, there's 2 types of pwf files:

-the A* system (by SF and Austin that's incorporated in PODbot mm and POXbot)

-The classic PODbot system (by CF incorporated in PODbot v2.5 and down, EPB, YAPB, IVPbot, etc.)

So yeah, just name them something like that. I'm sure you guys will think of something more accurate...

For Nav files, they'll need to be broken down into 2 sections: Official CS:CZ bot, and Official CS:S bot. Turtlerock's apparently heavily modifying their current bot for CZ and improving it a lot for CS:S, so there might be a nav system overhaul...

sPlOrYgOn 25-11-2004 21:06

Re: Work on Wesite?

1. Why are all the other podbot derives a subset of podbot mm?

2. A* really has nothing to do with how waypoints are saved...

3. Austin and SF only made the waypoint EDITOR.. they didn't change anything in the waypoint format... so POXBot I believe should go with the other bots...

4. PMB just changed what KIND of numbers were saved for camp waypoints only.. so what you get is bots looking in strange directions for camp waypoints.. but waypoint files are still compatible..

5. So there is only 1 type of current podbot wp file..

MarD 25-11-2004 22:35

Re: Work on Wesite?

Heyyo,

Heh, I dunno, I heard A* somewhere so I threw that into the name. :P

Well, in general, yes it's the same as the other PODbot waypoint systems minus the camp waypoints, and the extra 2 pathwaypoint lines... Because of those 2 bonus pathwaypoint lines, I think PODbot mm is incompatible with the original waypoint style.... I'll have to try a PODbot mm waypoint in E[POD]bot to see if there is no compatibility errors.

Re: Work on Wesite?

Just dropping by to let you know I'm still interested in this... just that I ndon't have much time.

@ sPlO: I agree with all points, but let's not start that compatibility discussion again, ok? I think we can all agree that...

using PB mm waypoints for PB mm is better than using PB 2.5 waypoints and

using PB 2.5 waypoints for PB 2.5 is better than using PB mm waypoints,

whereas it doesn't matter if you use EPB or PB 2.5 waypoints for EPB or PB 2.5

- no matter because of which technical detail that might be.

The division is not intended for any other thing than to help people choose the ideal solution for them, period. We can still place a note somewhere that you can use e.g. PB mm for PB 2.5 because they are compatible in a technical sense, although not ideal.

@ biohazerd: The template doesn't look bad, and the functionality is just as I had imagined it to be (well, as far as that can be judged at such an early stage of development). Oh, and is it me or is that blue a bit "baby/candy blue"-ish?

At the end of the day, the font size will have to be smaller, I'd get rid of the broad divisions between table cells and go for the "thin horizontal line" or "zebra stripes" look. But that can be adjusted...

as for the color... the guy no longer has the PSD file to change the colors so we are stuck with that... unless you really don't like that, i can probly get him to make it again... and the tables ya i know i am just trying some things... i don't do a lot of designing... i ususally do the code

Uhh, wait a second... but you have the gfx in some shape or form, don't you? And why wouldn't it be possible to edit those with PS? Not that it's that important...

In December, I'll post some stuff concerning the layout. But for now, I'm gonna lay down - bedtime! Got a long & hard day tomorrow.

the way these types of layouts are made is they have lots and lots of layers, so the drop shadows, shades etc have their own layer... which means that in psd form you can change the color properties... and it changes the other layers shading to coenside with the color... it would be hard, maybe even impossible to change the colors of the JPEG format of the layout
