no where.. yet.. im waitin for the beta version..

Re: Cs 2d!

lol, that will take some time! THere is no sound, there is no gameplay; hence there are bugs, well, it would be cool to have it tested at some point :)

Re: Cs 2d!

For future notice i saw in the other game cs 2d that most the time u cant see ur bullets or others

maybe u can put a thing(not a programmer) that mkaes it so u can see them also may be u could slow down the bullets a bit because in there game all u do is shoot and u dont dodge which is kinda lame since u cant jump or duck or anything since its 2d

and one more thing u good add these ladder things (like in infantry if u ever played it) or tile things that when a person goes through they can go up to a high level but u cant go down it.

tell me wat u think can u do it when u get to that kinda state of being able to.:D

INFANTRY
IT use to be free but now it aint..:'(

Re: Cs 2d!

ladders, thats quite a difficult task. There are multiple manners to solve this, but i dont know if i will take care of that at all at this time. Perhaps later, perhaps never.

bullets, yes, its interesting to have them really 'fly', so you can dodge them. Yet, a bullet flies prety fast, i wonder if you are able to dodge in normal CS...

What i would like is recoil, i did not see tha tin the 'original cs2d'

Re: Cs 2d!

I signed up here because I myself was once interested in making a 2d cs... and realbot is the bot I use as well...

I was disapointed in the CS2D by Unreal Software. It was ugly, and didn't represent CS too well.

May I make a few suggestions?

- Use a new engine? Like using simple 3d levels, but with 2d objects. I think the best example of this would be Grand Theft Auto 2. I can send that game to you if you want, it is basically freeware now.
- Since it's hard to represent different levels of height in 2d, you could have the upper levels fade out when blocking your vision.

I have a lot of ideas in my head that would make a really enjoyable game... I'd really love to help with this. I have a good amount of programming knowledge, and I'm willing to learn.

Re: Cs 2d!

well, when you want to do gta 2 stuff you should write a 3d engine. And that is not my speciality. Hence i am glad i finally end up with this.

Re: Cs 2d!

I have been reading through some networking libraries. OMFG THATS FREAKING HARD> Argh. I am gonna make a solid engine first, then going to bother about Networking. So it might be that the first beta's (or alphas') will have NO bots, or simple bots to start with. Argh. If somebody has some good Network coding experience... dont hasitate to contact me!

Gimme gimme gimme :) CS2D.com sucked because it keept crashing on my system :/

Bot this on looks _GREAT_

looks aint everything ;) though i care about details.

Re: Cs 2d!

wow stefanhendriks, these screenshots look great! looking forward to a beta-version as well...

hey, why not make it a tactics editor? In a later stage you could simulate the tactics with bot-code to see how it behaves. :)

my vision was/is to create a tool that renders a bsp-file like it is done in-game with the overviews, the red and blue pions. And than be able to move around in this 2d level with the cursors. well finally I'm seeing screenshots that are pretty close to that vision. keep up the good work! =)

Re: Cs 2d!

the problem is, the 2d world is not as flexible as the 3d hl world. So you wont make 100%look-alike levels as in normal CS. Ie, look at the cs2d.com version, de_dust2 looks like a totally different map! :S

stefanhendriks 02-08-2004 21:43

Re: Cs 2d!

update:
you can specify on textures how they should react on players (like materials kinda like), i can extend this feature for sounds probably ;)

Heyyo,

LMAO! awesome man! I'm gonna give this a go! btw, is it for steam or not?

N' no bots yet eh? darn, but does this run online ok with dial up??? I know I should probably RTFM but I can't do too much slacking off at school :P

Re: Cs 2d!

This is sorta like Soldat. The hardest part of getting used to CS2d is the controls, no matter what i can't get used to you it. Between Soldat and CS2d, i rather prefer soldat because of the simplistic controls. But still, very nice conversion (cept controls).

TruB 01-09-2004 21:31

Re: Cs 2d!

soldat is way better since its no conversion..
its looks btw like a game called liero.. that looks like a real time worms game..

Heyyo,

LMAO, leiro ruled man! I loved that little game... it's even better when you get that blood trainer n' increase their bloodyness to like 123968% or so... then after a couple little taps the level turns into a massive bloodbath. ;)

Re: Cs 2d!

Heyyo,

I tried CS2D... and it RULES! lol, I LOVE it man! the controls aren't that hard on absolute. Lol, the bot support's fun, but not team-orientated, or too much task wise (definding... they don't do much of that :P ).

Re: Cs 2d!

Waiting for your version to come out man, the cs 2d.com one sucked, it doesnt even resemble cs. the only thing that makes you know its cs is the name and the exact same weapons.. I swear its worse than a pokemon game.. and thats saying something.

This project will be revived; after i get married the 26/07/07. I will use SDL as library.

what sort of ballistic modelling are you planning on using? just a constant damage, or some sort of (more realistic) decrement with range?

Re: Cs 2d!

One thing i don't want is having a 32x32 pixels tiles engine/grid.

What i want is:
- light / shadow effects
- a precise FOV.
- a world existing out of polygons instead of tiles.

Mind, it is still 2d.

I do have some little play testing programs here, one doing light effects, one doing the polygon thing. And one doing both, so i have a light map, a collision map, and a 'result' map which draws all the stuff together. Kinda looks neat. But when doing it 2d (not using OpenGL that is), it can be rather slow, so you have to think of a few tricks to keep the speed up.

I also tried some opengl stuff, got a rotating cube and all, but i lack time to invest more time into it. Perhaps i might recode the stuff to be using true opengl polygons instead of my own 'version'.

About damage, who knows. I want a sniper gun be really effective, visually giving you an advantage, ie something like that the world is being zoomed out (you see more) yet all you can see is through the weapon (so only where your mouse is , and only where your vission is not blocked).

Re: Cs 2d!

I promised to update this thread some time. I have restarted coding, using SDL instead of Allegro. I will stick to the 32x32 tiles though.

I had to restart coding because I lost the source of this thing :(

When i have some more news I'll tell you, or you could give my blog a chance (@ fundynamic).

What can it do:
- calculate visibility
- movement
- view pan (ie, you can view as much as the screen allows you to)

The FPS is much better then with Allegro. I don't know why in technical level, but the lib I use, with correct graphic formatting, allows me to go to 1024x768 even and going smooth (for now).

And here is some proof:
