Well there was indeed a bug, but this time it's the forum's fault. T Wrecks was not registered in the database as ">BKA< T Wrecks" but "&gt;BKA&lt; T Wrecks". The vBulletin code simply forgets to strip special HTML characters and that's why the filebase code couldn't find his username in the DB. I added a lil search/replace function that should do the trick.
