@botmeister and aspirin: I get your point. But maybe you remember a technical discussion with Akz about his bot. I was thinking that it was based on POD-bot because of the screenshots of the waypoint editor and the "advanced" features, but Akz told us that it was in fact a HPB_bot offspring. There were technical questions in this discussions which a wannabe like (3)COLORS couldn't possibly have answered right. I can attest that Akz is honest.

Akz: maybe post an .avi showing the bots in action ? :)

Maybe... But how do you make it an .avi file o_O. Seems to be painful.
There's also a bunch of screenshots on my site showing some of the features (i.e. carrying a chest). Maybe I can take some more if you want...

EDIT: It seems to be easy to capture the video with Fraps.

2. EDIT: Well, I made a little video, but the quality seems to be pretty bad... the picture is somehow... distorted in some places. The length is 2:47, 15 fps and the file is 16 megs in DivX format. I don't think it's wise to upload that unless someone really wants it. I think we just need to stick with the screenshots. 9_9

3. EDIT: Somehow I managed to lose the .avi file, but I still have the clips, so I can still do it again if somebody wants it. 9_9

Re: GrogBot - Joining Bots-United?

just searched and found this here : http://forums.bots-united.org/showthread.php?t=1458

so the discussions was maybe in irc or similar ?

dunno, maybe we should add something to our constitution about how to join. Ok, something like (3)colors is identified easily, but somehow we cannot just host everything and hope we get somewhen something good. This is no offense to you, Akz, but I think this topic is really a problem.

I agree with this Asp. We must add something like this to our rules.

BUT

concerning GrogBot I see this:
A. It already exists for some time
B. It is NOT an nth podbot clone with strictly no creativity involved
C. It is NOT for a well-known mod, attesting that the initial goal of its maker was NOT to gain popularity by making it
D. It is still in activity and regularly updated (see the news on the website)
E. It has already a forum with users who tried the bot and can attest that the bot WORKS
F. Akz is a former member of botman's forums who was there for some time already, which suffices to say that he is NOT an opportunist.

IMO his bot qualifies completely for being part of Bots United. I'd say even: his bot qualifies MUCH MORE than those EPODBot and IvPBot podbot clones -and I stress CLONES- which we allowed the authors here, who stayed for a few weeks and then completely VANISHED away, disappeared, not even logged in here at Bots United for MONTHS. Meanwhile people still continue to frequent their forums, download these bots, post questions, and think that these bots are still updated. But ARE THESE BOTS still even SUPPORTED by their "authors" ???

And if you push the logic further, I say this:
GrogBot deserves more a place at Bots United than RACC, because the last release of RACC is about 2 years old and I have made no single update to it since. Note that I'm still supposed to develop it, but can you be certain that I am ? I post screenshots and stuff, but couldn't it be a big fake as well ? This logic is flawed.

Let not Bots United become an elitist crew of snobs.

If GrogBot can't qualify, then kick out IvPBot and EPOD-Bot immediately. Which isn't to say that it doesnt itch me already. >:(

Re: GrogBot - Joining Bots-United?

I agree with PMB on this one. GrogBot provides even more then any POD clone here does in that way. I'd say YES to GrogBot, and i have seen it for a longer time. In fact, i got mailed once about making my bot support the same mod, because there was only one bot and no alternatives. I got a link to the Grogbot site.

Speaking of the POD clones, which one IS being developed further? I'd say if they are not active for a while, we should remove them. As the bots are getting old, WE (and not the 'original' authors) probably have to keep them up so they keep on working. It smells like doing somebody else his/her job. Which should not be the case.

Re: GrogBot - Joining Bots-United?

ok, pierre you convinced me now fully. I already thought about voting yes when I posted my last post in this thread here, but hey, this way the discussion went deeper ...

havnt seen akz on botman's forums, at least I cannot really remember, but that was also maybe when I was moving away from home and all that stuff ...

ok, another yes vote now, and now let's put this discussions to http://forums.bots-united.org/showthread.php?t=2073 ... I think the ivp and especially epod stuff has to be watched ... maybe we can still host them, but maybe add a new entry in the title row for 'dead' bots ... otherwise it's getting too cluttered

but let's move the discussion there ...

Re: GrogBot - Joining Bots-United?

well, looky looky the poll results.
An immense majority of the council voted yes... still miss Nova, but I suppose that's he hasn't visited since before the thread was started :)

Anyway...
Majority is met. GrogBot is now part of Bots United.

Akz, please get in touch with me by PM and tell me what you need or don't need: webspace, domain, email, FTP, user login to the Linux BU server for compiling your stuff, CVS account, forum name and subtitle...
I'd also need your real name and the password you want to use for these accounts.

By tomorrow you can have all this set up. :)

Welcome in the crew !

Re: GrogBot - Joining Bots-United?

"Speaking of the POD clones, which one IS being developed further?"
...perhaps that's because the POD-bot source code is strictly CS specific and quite unstructured (just take a look at that loooooong BotThink() function...), and I have already seen that I won't be able to make a much better bot unless I have rewritten almost everything in the PB code (well, perhaps that is starting a bot from scratch...). I'm still updating my PB clone though, and probably I'm the only one who has rewritten so much code in PB ;) but it's still "unofficial PB patch" which has no real improvement

I voted "yes" and I'm a paranoid one :)

See above post, that's the debate I want to see resolved. Grogbot only brings up the need for some guidlines.
