lol...
they should probably change that news to "We just released the manual for the HL2 SDK but you won't get the actual SDK" :D

CSNATION says Jess Cliffe said that the SDK would be released later today..
it's a few more ours before GMT -8 is tomorrow...

You have to have HL2 to see it (preordered or with an ATI voucher).

I don't want to buy HLČ until I see a few reviews...

You have to have HL2 to see it (preordered or with an ATI voucher).

Actually, you only have to own any Source game (right now CS:Source is the only released Source game).

The Half-Life2 SDK including source code will be released after Half-Life2 is available on Steam (Nov. 16th?).

But Botman, you can't own CS:S without HL2. Look at the packages.

I looked at the map viewer, and it has a lot more features. It has detail brushes, but I don't know if they are like Quake 2 or Quake 3 detail brushes. It seems to borrow some ideas.

There are also portals now, that can be made to activate when doors open. Sweet!

Also there are displacements, which are used for terrain usually, the standard func_wall (you can use it so vrad casts shadows with it), and some other nifty features. I need to try to figure out how to make a mirror and floors with the specular effect.

There are some good tutorials at http://www.hl2world.com/bbs/viewforum.php?f=24. They were originally for the leaked beta, but they still work fine.

Well, the SDK was released, and I've been toying around with hammer all day... I bought HL2 via steam and the SDK is a playable game under the Tools category in My Games list. Sucks that steam must be running to run hammer now... I have an older box and I need those extra resources!!! There's still some bugs to be worked out as well. You can't run a map inside hammer yet... I love all the new options but, It's like I have to learn the entities all over again, so I guess it wouldn't be so hard starting out as a first time mapper. I still need to figure out how to add physics props and adjust their properties. And I havn't even really looked at the Model Viewer yet... I've been working on this fy map all day. All it needs now are some physics props! I'll have to learn that tomorrow.

Make sure you use client-sided props. I believe the entitiy is prop_physics_multiplayer.

Thanks, I was sure I had tried that yesterday...
They're working now! does ne1 know a convar for a prop limit in a map?

its so much shit to check out im just trippping out man totally.....amazing.....and the worst part:

my machine is too old....i have the game preordered...and have the CS:S and the sdk package.....but cant open a map...its the only thing so far that totally crashes my system since i installled WinXPhome.....so i dont know what im gonna do :(

all you have to do, is go into: sourcesdk/cstrike_sample_content/maps/yourmap.bsp
copy
then goto:
counter-strike source/cstrike/maps/
paste your map there, start a listen-server and load your compiled map! Be sure to check "Do not run map after compile!" This is an error they have to sort out still...

I also have an old box:
PIII 1Ghz
256MB RAM
64MB GFX card Redeon 9100 PCI clone
Windows 2000 Pro

I'm thinking I may have problems with SoftImage XSI EXP for HL2 though, the resolution is so huge, I need a bigger monitor! 1280 x 1024 is the minimum resolution!

"Well, the time draws near! I'm not going to mention a specific day, but certainly the word "soon" is appropriate here"you call that definite and SDK released ? the word "soon" has another meaning over at valve, at least when I see the release schedule of HL2 and its changes :D

hmm, all the development tools only seem to work for people who have PAID for hl2, they all require steam to run.. i'm not too sure how they will enforce this on the source.. but that sucks tbh.

well, to test that stuff, you need to have a copy of HL2 ... so you had to pay for it ... looks logical for me ...

although they might have given some copies of HL for free to those already having worked a lot on bots and other utilities for HL1 :P

That would be a good investment I think. A surprise gift for Christmas is in order!
